Okay, this morning I booted up my laptop and it took a while to load (like 5 minutes, twice as long as usual). When it had almost finished loading my userpage, it suddenly got a blue screen. It then completely crashed. It was like if I'd have yanked the battery out of it. Then it said that it hadn't turned off properly, so i booted it in safe mode. It did the same thing again. It gave me the option to system restore, so I did, and then it worked. However, the previous night it had installed updates when I shut it down. It restored to just before then, and when I shut it down, it installed the updates again. Now I booted it up just now and it did the exact same thing. It's got the updates ready to install on shut-down again and whether or not they're the problem... However, I have though of several factors that could have caused this: - A few days ago it was complaining because a SYSTEM file's drivers wouldn't install properly. I tried it a few times, but decided to leave it in case it was some kind of virus - My McAfee antivirus expired a few weeks ago. I downloaded ClamWin in the mean time and left McAfee installed. - I dropped it a couple of days ago. It fell off of a chair in my bedroom, and I saw no damage to it. - Right before the updates were installed (right before I shut it down before the problems started), the battery went critical and while I was getting the charger it went into hibernation and saved the session to disk. It booted fine. What should I do? I really don't want to have to do this on every boot. It can't be good for the computer either; it is much slower now also. And yes, it is Vista...
It sounds like when you dropped it you damaged your hard drive and not just some documents, the critical system files. It is less likely to be a virus tbh. Can you remember the error code on the BSOD? If it is a problem with mounting etc then it is a Hard Drive problem. Ill provide more help if you provide the error code
Yeah, I'm not naive enough to honestly think it would be a virus, but you never know :/ Watch this space, I'll write it down when it breaks again tomorrow EDIT: Okay I booted my computer sans the updates, and it worked fine. Can you ****ing believe it... Time to switch to Windows 7?
