You and I personally know that the elites are a bad a-- mother f---ers.

They are cunning and swift. But ultimately an elite is an elite, they will be fought the same way unless given certain situations that can spice up the combat level.

By adding a point defense gauntlets (aka a shield) the elite or at least some of them can be harder to fight, and give them some interesting combat scenarios.

This idea almost made it into the game even before the Halo CE was brought out. Back when halo was a 3rd person shooter, elites had these point defense gauntlets. This was later replaced by their full body shields.

I believe that these should be brought back. Here are a number of situations in which could apply the shield.

    1) Elite Councilor with sword(doubt we will see any in reach but you never know)
    2) Elite Zealot with sword/plasma rifle
    3) Elite Honor Guard Ultra's with swords or pikes (energy stave)
    4) Elite Special Operation (a line of special operation forces slowly approaching your line with overlapping shields trying to encircle the player(s))

These elites would have a standard body shield, but this extra shield would act (but look different) just like a jackal shield. Over enough damage the shield will permanently fall which then you can attack the body shielding. This shield would make the elites move just a tad bit slower as they will want to hide behind it.

Your ideas and thoughts are much appreciated. If you don't agree please state why, or what i could add to the thread to make it a suitable idea.

Will players be able to pick them up and use them?

if they work like jackal shields then no, also, it'd be a riot shield affect going on...

maybe not, but the idea is still a cool one, or at least in my opinion it is. Unless bungie decides that the shield would make a good counter weapon.

Only in campaign and used very sparingly it would be okay with me. If you played mw2 you know how frustrating riot shields are.

Elites have personal code about handheld shields. They think it's cowardly to hide behind cover and that's why it was cut from the game. So no.

It should be the same as the normal jackal shield. Resistant to bullet damage but weak against plasma, explosive, and melee attacks.

see this sounds good, but then really they become big jackals... at the end of the day if they took another races weapons/defences then they'd all end up like mini hunters and brute chiefs... the idea is diversity. Thats waaaaaay more fun

What if the point defense gauntlet could be used as a second weapon that slows the user as much as carrying a turret? It could be like a cooler version of the riot shield. Melee should be slower than normal and do the same damage, to be balanced.

This idea would totally break multiplayer. Are you suggesting this for campaign?

No. If anything, have specops jackals who have better shields, stronger, better weps and maybe a body shield.]

    Just don't ruin my elite.

If these shields were added they most likely would have been introduced as equipment (like jetpacks and spring) given only to elites. The idea of the elite shield was simply transfered to jackals. Since elites are already so powerful they may cause problems if given even more protection. If the jackals return to Reach (as I have heard) giving Elites these shields would make them near copies of the jackals which are supposed to provide specialty troops that require different tactics to bring down. Part of the ease of killing jackals is their stupidity which would not be a problem for elites.
