v2 Available Here! Sandstorm By xVespherx YouTube- Sandstorm - A Halo 3 Map The hills are now much bigger than they are in the video. And yes, i realize i spelled Metallica wrong. The Map: Sandstorm is a map inspired by de_dust2 from the Counter-Strike series. These maps have many relations in terms of spawns, locations and flanking points. The map is designed with a main center part, or "Middle," with two sites beside it, both site A and site B. These sites, or "bomb sites" as called in Counter-Strike are also very important parts of the map, as you can use them to flank the enemy team. This map varies from mid-range to close-range combat. The map presents you with an environment that keeps you on your toes, as you may encounter an enemy around every corner, weather they be right in front of you, or on the other side of the map. Sandstorm also has a small tunnel system that connects the red spawn to site B. The middle section of the map also has an entrance point to the tunnel. Gameplay: This map was GOING to support Slayer, Oddball, King of the Hill and Capture the flag, but after numerous hours of testing it has been found that Capture the Flag and Oddball was too hard to score in. So this map now supports Slayer and King of the Hill for 2-4 players. Because of the size of this map, a lot of close range weapons were needed. The weapons on this map are almost perfectly balanced, meaning a fair game for everyone. The rockets are located in the middle of the map to give players an object to rush to at the beginning of the game. you mean you like how walls are used as walls.... hey smart guy? id like to add that you should fix up the diagonal double blocks to make it neater

Wow! Thanks for the mention. I loved playing on this map. Very frantic. We were always scared to turn a corner because usually be another player. Koth was Intense. Rooms were small but very CQB and Fun. CTF does work very well. Out of all the Gametypes, That was the best one. I would suggest only 4-5 player FFA. Any higher it would be too crazy. I did see some resemblance between Counter Strike and this map. I would be honoured to work with another map with you. The Gameplay is fun, frantic, squad based and CQB. Very Nice Map 5/5!
lol I like how you made entrances protrude to allow flanking and backstabbing. But besides that I find the map very plain. Everything looks so bland it is hard to figure out where you are. You could fix this by adding some call outs like an Aesthetic Overshield or a colored column to distinguish sides. The overview looks like you scaled this map down pretty accurately so huge props on that. I know its hard to scale down maps with a pretty generic building set of Double Blocks and Walls. One thing that raises my eyebrow is the weapon set. Ive never played counterstrike but I do imagine it Doesnt include a Plasma Pistol so Im wondering why you would spend so much attention to detail and yet overlook something like that. Dont be disheartened though-Im just picky. Keep up the hard work.
I was the person who made the weapon set. I confirmed with him, Its suppost to only be played on slayer and ctf. He didn't say this is a Counter Strike map with a Counter Strike Gametype. However that is quite clever. Anyway, He didn't want an OV or AC on the map. I totally understand that because the map is quite small. However frantic and fun. I would say this is map is worth a download. Check it out then come back and comment on any issues you have.
Actually I was just about to test it. Want to show me around? I think you are confused. Im not saying "place an overshield or camo!" Im saying make a Landmark so you know where you are. Most people do this by Interlocking an Overshield (red team) or Camo (blue team) to easily distinguish bases. Of course placing a colored column or even a few more lights would do the same. One more thing about the post. Dont you think "Darude- Sandstorm" would be a more suitable song for the gameplay video? I love Metallica but cmon son
You bring up a good point, all though call-outs are not a problem if you have played the original map on CS. But i do understand that many people haven't, so maybe i will make a V2. Ive got 4 Hours to kill, so why not?
layout is fantastic....i like the merging....and i like the team dubs feel....any map tht is good and supports team dubs... i like it....so anyway...nice map..good job
The map itself is simple which makes it terrific. It has no big fancy aesthetics, just straightforward gameplay, GJ. It looks great for CQB. Although i dont see much resemblance to dust 2. if you could give us an over view that would be great as well. But great map, 2v2 KOTH could be EPIC!
