    Temple of War

    Created by ScionOfDeth.

This map is a fast paced and small map centering around a large four story complex and an open walkway. Taking advantage of the sword and shotguns located on this map while also offering great positions for battle rifles and the traditional assault rifle, this map contains a streamlined combination of close quarters and narrow halls for a truly exciting feel.

    Game Modes/Suggestions

    2-8 Players.

So far, this map only supports standard Slayer games and is symmetrical. If there's enough demand, I may add in oddball and other game types.

Close range weapons thrive in this level, so I suggest a shotgun or sword brawl.

    Detailed Screenshots and Complete Description

The heart and pulse of the entire map is the tower around the center. Four stories high, this simple structure offers a massive drop from the highest floor to the ground level. It's virtually impossible to go back up this way.

And once you fall in, you should probably head around front. Even armed with a sword, my foolish friend proves my point.

The third floor, with it's only access point located in the center of the level, offers the tightest quarters in the map. It's a virtual fortress, and with only one entrance, it's perfect for lazy campers (though foot traffic's considerably low). At the end of the square-shaped complex, a grav lift brings you up to the highest floor (note the blue spartan above, who hit the lift). This image also offers a brief glimpse of the two side hallways (bottom left and right corners) which offer a simple, narrow design for some simple, narrow.. umm.. kills.

In this image, you get a decent shot of the biggest room. It's here battle rifles are most effective, but sword and shotgun users don't need to worry too much. Subtle barriers and a bubble shield will supply decent protection from harmful BR shots. Note the fusion coils, out of direct confrontation on the other side of the fence. While out of sight, they're not out of mind, and these fusion coils can still deal damage from behind their chain links!

All in all, this map is one you have to play to truly enjoy. While there's always room for improvement, I feel comfortable posting this map for you guys and I hope you all find it pleasant!

    Weapons on the map:
    Mauler
    Plasma Pistol
Energy Sword - no runtime max
    Shotguns (2) - 0 spare clips
    Spiker
    SMG
    Battle Rifle
    Assault Rifle

    Equipment on the map:
Bubble Shield (center of the front room)
Power Drain (base of the middle drop)
Spike grenades (left and right of the front room)
Plasma Grenades (left and right of top floor)
    Fire Grenades (third floor)

Whoa...did I see two shotguns, a sword, and a couple maulers on a close-quarters map?

Let me step back a second, the interlocking and aesthetics are quite solid, so you've got the hard part down. It also looks like it could play well if the weapons on map were better arranged.

So either take out both shotguns or one shotty and the sword. On a map this small, one close range power weapon along with a mauler or two works well, you might even consider taking everything (close-range) out except the maulers.

Also, stay away from areas of the map with only one entrance. Camping should be discouraged as much as possible, as it makes games long, drawn-out, and boring.

To replace the removed short range weapons, try putting in a brute shot or even a fuel rod gun with no spare clips...

First of all, the shotguns come without a spare clip. This means, six shots into them, and they're polished off, though you can get another six rounds by going to the opposite side. Also, there's only one mauler on the map.

I wanted to put an emphasis on close ranged power weapons, forcing players to either keep the others at arms length or to use alternate techniques to kill them (grenades, fusion coils, a power drain).

However, I may take this into consideration and particularly give the sword a runtime maximum. It's a heavy factor in the map, and while I personally love swords in abundance, others don't seem to feel the same.

As for camping, the third floor is really the only one which may even present the slightest opportunity. However, if you try the map out, you'll realize there's nearly no action in those narrow halls and the best action is either in the big drop in the middle of the map, or in the big room.

Have you tried the map yet? :surprise:

Thanks a ton for the comments, keep 'em coming!

    I agree with these comments.

    Great looking map.
    The weapons are questionable.
You say that the shotty has no spare clips, but on a close-quarters map, thats six kills!

I'm gonna dl this right now, it looks really good.
I think the weapons are fine, you sound like you want it to be shotty/swords anyway.

8/10 simply because I havn't played it yet, I'll edit it later. (after school)

Edit: I'm gonna keep it at an 8/10. It's a good map, but I pictured it being bigger. You have some items left, (fence walls, walls, corner walls, various boxes, bridges, etc) I think that you might be able to squeeze out a V2. I'm not trying to say it's a bad map, but I think it could be bigger.

I was just going from the pics and what you said in the thread...I didn't get a chance to try it out yet so I prolly dl and get a better feel for the map before leaving more feedback.

Just the fact that you took the time to answer my questions shows that you put a lot of thought into the whole thing.

Wow, thanks for the comments you guys! The maps had quite an impressive number of hits, and I'm excited to be able to contribute to ForgeHub finally (instead of just playing all your fun maps lol)

If you don't like the weapons on the map, I encourage some editing. In fact, since I used the money glitch, I left all the weapons on the map (in a room outside the map, where they were with the canvas) so you can go ahead and move/edit any of those to your particular tastes.

My personal favorite gametype for this is a slayer mod I have with no respawn time. You could simulate the feeling with more then 10 players on the map, and it's pretty intense :D

Again thanks for the comments. I'll be adding more maps to my collection very, very soon. I just have to work their bugs out.
