Bioshock 2 Discussion Anyone else anticipating this event? I'm finishing the first Bioshock from start to finish over the course of what I've done today and what I'll do tommorow. Just finished the Arcadia Air mission. Anyone think I'll finish the game in four hours if I hurry? I'm going to be recording some gameplay with my capture card and making some tutorials as well. And anyone late to the party can read this little article I've put together: So it's ten years after the events of Bioshock One. Jack is nowhere to be seen and we have a completely new protagonist: Subject Delta. Now, if you've not heard yet, Subject Delta is a Big Daddy. In fact the first successful Big Daddy. He was only a prototype, so he has some free will, despite being controllable by Big Daddy plasmids. He's the only Big Daddy that can use plasmids as well. You're looking for the original little sister you were bonded to, Eleanor. Professor Tenebaum, after leaving for the surface with some Little Sisters ten years ago has returned and will be your main acting voice in the beginning. You being a Big Daddy and all makes you invincible right? Especially with plasmids, tonics, and free will, right? Wrong. After the ten years many of the Little Sisters went missing causing massive outbreaks in the splicers. Only the toughest have survived, and they travel in groups. Not to mention the newest form of splicer, the brute splicer, comparable to a splicer Big Daddy. And speaking of Big Daddies, you're not alone. The old boys are back, and they're still neutral towards the player. You WILL need to kill them to get their little sisters, and I'll explain more on that later. Now, seeing as the splicers got stronger to kill the Big Daddies, the Big Daddies came back in a HUGE way. They call him, The Rumbler. This bad boy sports a rocket launcher, an iron fist, and the ability to throw out mini turrets. The good news? You can hack their turrets to turn them against their lord. Also the Rumbler's ranged attacks all involve physical explosives, meaning you can turn their weapons against them with telekinesis by grabbing the rockets and returning them. Now the little sister mechanics have drastically changed from the original Bioshock. You can still harvest them when you find one. That is probably the worst choice possible for a fact, not just an opinion. Instead of saving the little sister you have the choice to adopt them. They become your Little Sister, and you carry them around. You find special Splicer corpses for them and begin a minigame. When you put down the Little Sister to collect Adam from a corpse splicers rain from the skies like it wasn't water outside rapture, and the roof just sprung a leak. The Little Sister is invincible to damage, but being struck completely stops the collection proccess until she isn't being attacked anymore. Once the collection completes you can harvest one more body for a maximum of two. You then make a choice. Harvest the Little Sister for MAXIMUM Adam, or return the Little Sister to Tenebaum for less Adam but future rewards. Now, there is one possibility that can happen after a Harvest. One that will put you against your equal. The Big Sister This BAMF will put your ammo where you mouth is. She can charge you, drain splicers for health, and even commit to throwing a Telekinetic pummeling upon you. Once you've defeated this boss search her body under ALL circumstances. No exceptions. The body of the Big Sister holds Adam. 40 of the good stuff. Not so much a curse now, is it? Now what would a game be without weapons? All of the original guns, minus the chemical thrower, return in a brand new unique way. AND we get a new one. Not to mention in this game ALL guns have a melee animation. In Bioshock 2 we have the following: Drill: Replaces the wrench. Drill your enemies guts out. Uses fuel for sustained drilling, but can work without fuel for just stronger melee hit. Rivet Gun: The new pistol, get headshots with great aim. Powerful, and once the weapon is fully upgraded each bullet has a chance to catch on fire!!! It comes with the inventable ammo, the trap dart. Fire them on the ground and on the walls! When an enemy steps on it it fires! All the enemies gone and you've already placed the ammo? Pick it back up! Gatling Gun: The new machine gun, once upgraded can bounce bullets! Double Barrelled Shotgun: A new shotgun. It only has a clip of two, making it slower than the original shotgun, but can get an upgrade to have a clip of SIX SHELLS! Not to mention a great electrical upgrade for getting both earlier upgrades. Cannon: The new grenade launcher. This thing is just great at a max upgrade. Not only do the explosives not harm you, the original bomb explodes like an MIRV into additional ones. And keep your proximity mines at the ready for those harvest missions! Spear Gun: Possibly the most valuable weapon in the game. It has a great sight, trap spears that work like trap rivets, and best of all ROCKET SPEARS! These things will send an enemy flying around in circles causing colatteral damage and lighting everything it touches before it explodes. Great fun at parties. Research Camera: Now still action was rather boring before, wasn't it? Well now the research camera acts completely differently. It records video. You are scored depending on the technique you used to kill an enemy instead of how you position the video. Hacking tool: Sounds pointless, right? Wrong. This gun fires a dart allowing remote access to anything hackable. Great for those security cameras you've frozen but can't reach, and that lever just out of arms length. And don't forget the option to use an autohack dart for hacking a turret in the middle of battle. This one's inventable ammo? Mini turrets. That's right. Just like a rumbler. Guns are nice toys, but for some serious damage plasmids are where it's at. All of the old plasmids return in a big way, especially the elemental ones. There's a good reason the chemical thrower was taken out. Who needs it when you can cast sustained frost, fire, and electricity from your fingertips? Throw out a cyclone trap then light it on fire for extra damage! Want to see ahead and destroy splicers with your plasmids really easily? Use Scout with the natural camoflauge tonic. Not only will the tonic make you invincible, Scout let's you astro project. You're body invincible, you're free to attack enemies with plasmids and even cause them to be enraged, fighting each other! Bioshock 2 has a lot to feature for it's singleplayer. And it's mutliplayer. That's right, you heard me correctly, multiplayer. It's the 1950s. You play as one of six, or eight if you preordered from gamestop, characters. You work for Sinclair Solutions. You test out their plasmids and weapons in Rapture, and then can gain Adam (XP) to rank up. As you rank up you unlock new things on your quest to rank 40. Whenever you're not fighting you walk around in your apartment and from their you can reach your weapon loadout, character customizations, and leaderboards. Take your very own bathysphere to begin the battle. And get this. The higher a rank you are the more spliced your character is right? Well it shows, physically of course. If you are mentally affected by gaining ranks you should really stop and go see a shrink. You're body slowly mangles into a monster, a HIDEOUS MONSTER! Sorry, got in the mood there. So that's multiplayer in a nutshell. Same basic weapons as singleplayer, but with the original Bioshock flavor. Not to mention some plasmids change. Cyclone trap, for example, turns to a Geiser Trap. It does less damage instead and propels the enemy around. You can also run on it taking no damage to do an ultra jump. You also have some unique plasmids like Aero which allows you to momentarily run extremely fast. Combined with the Geiser you can cover some SERIOUS distance in no time at all. Now every multiplayer game has a tank. And which could be better than the Rosie himself? If you find a Big Daddy suit lying around get in it fast. You lose the ability to regenerate health, but you get a rivet gun, plenty of eve and health, and become a huge target. The person that kills a Big Daddy gets a HUGE Adam bonus. Not to mention in games like FFA if you don't team up with your enemies the player to get Big Daddy prety much won already. Blow the Big Daddy up. Then get back to business. So that's Bioshock 2. If you want to learn more about it, get it! And join in on the fun!
this just ended my debating. I was trying to decide to get Bioshock 2 or not (im kinda low on money) but im definetly getting now that i know all these details. I loved the first Bioshock and i cant wait for Bioshock 2. This thread is amazing man, excellent work.
restarted the first a couple hours ago. im in the process of saving trees. will i finish tonight? yep i will.
I was going to not get this game, but I enjoyed the first Bioshock and this looks to good as well. Going to go grab it after I get out of work. On another note I like going to Bestbuy to get my games, because they don't ask me to subscribe to anything and they don't pester me to reserve games.
Ive been playing it since I got it like 10 hours ago, and its definitely NOT a disappointment to me. The story mode is sexier than that of the first, the gameplay is even smoother than before, and the multiplayer mode didnt fail ass like alot of other games that attempted to add it in. The single player is still the highlight, but the multiplayer portion is worth the continued play. Go pick it up!
I can't say anything without giving away a part of the game, so I won't say anything other than.. This game is ****ing awesome.
Started playing the game about 6 hours ago and so far it has surpassed all my expectations which were very high to begin with. So far the story is as compelling as the first game if not more which I didn't think was possible and the multiplayer didn't fail as I feared it would but I have to agree with TSB the single player story is the best out of the two. If your considering getting this game, do, it is amazing.
Im about 5 hours into the single player, and it is amazing. As expected, it doesnt sacrifice story for gameplay, or vice versa. Both great. The multiplayer also surpasses my expectations. its fun and addicting. great game, one of the best ive ever played.
Okay, What is Bioshock, Is it worth $49.99, and should I play the first before attempting the second?
Bioshock is the best game ever known to Mankind. End of discussion. For the story, it's nice to have under the belt but probably not needed for the second one.
I picked mine up today and just stopped playing it. Its just ****ing incredible. The story is amazing but i have yet to try the multiplayer, ill will probably try it tomorrowut be too wrapped up in the story haha. Im definitely happy i decided to buy this. This game is a must have.
The MLG guys are really tearing into the Bioshock 2 multiplayer. Early consensus seems to be that its a lot of fun, but it remains to be seen whether it stands up as a competitive game when good players face other good players. What do all of you think?
I think that MLG should stick to bullshit they like and stop trying to judge something thats put in for fun. The multiplayer is really not competitive and they shouldnt try to make it fit the mold.
