I'v got a physics essay to write as part of my coursework. It's no big deal, so i was wondering if anyone has any interesting topics that i could involve in it. I basicly have freedom to whatever information i want to look at within Physics, and i have to explain the topic showing an extensive knowledge.

It would be good if the topic had a good variety of branches of physics involved, so no new concepts that are entirely theoretical. So what should i do it on?

do sub atomics and quantum mechanics
its the easiest to waffle on

    Standard model is my backup.

I would have wanted a rather specific topic (Hadron Colliders, Superfluidity, electromagnets..)

Has it got to be specific, say, relevant to a certain material and it's use?
I did my last physics coursework piece on compact discs, what they're made of and how they work. Got an A :)
It also helps writing about something you're interested about, that's what made mine easy, the research is so much easier when you're enjoying it.

It's worth having a think about what you really enjoy, and think of the closest things that could be worth talking about in terms of physical properties, materials they are made from and such.

    Good luck!

I really have no clue, i have an equal interest in most branches of Physics.

My marks are based on my knowledge of Phyiscs in a range of topics, so it is important that whatever i choose to write about, i can look at in different aspects. Other than that i am free to choose anything, and my last one was on Ferrofluid, but was lacking.

The Higgs Boson would be interesting to do a paper on.

We would need to know what level of physics class your in.

Nixaguy a ruben's tube is extremely simple. We actually just played with one in my 11th grade (pre-AP?) honors physics class (annoyed the hell out of the regulars next door...)
Basically a closed metal pipe has multiple holes drilled on top, equidistant, same size, etc... One end is closed by being attached to a source of a combustible gas (hydrocarbons are most common, butane, methane, etc...) and the other is closed by being covered up by a sound source.
As all holes are lit, creating a small candlelike flame, the sound waves compress the air (sound waves are longitudinal waves) and affect how much gas is coming out of each hole, affecting the height of the flame.
So a constant wave of specific frequencies will allow you to observe the wavelengths and nodes/antinodes of waves. Or you can get tricky, and play music. My class would recomend:
    Tik Tok
    Mario theme song
    U Can't Touch This
    Fall From a Star

Although qutie amazingly cool, the concept is simple.

Do a String Theory Vs. God Particle (Higgs-Boson) paper.
Or Ionic liquids (ionic substances that are liquid at room temperature and 1 atm), but thats more of chemistry.
    Railguns would be fun!

I actually just wrote a physics paper about a week back. It was on buoyancy, it wasn't too difficult, just a few basic formulas.

I've also got a whole slew of other paper ideas, as our teacher makes us write 'em if we miss a lab.

You could talk about Nuclear Fusion, and talk about a Farnsworth Fusor. Or talk about Cold fusion instead, but if you want to go into Quantum Mechanics make sure you know what you are talking about, just curious what Sciences have you taken/are taking? Also what background stuff have you done on your own? Read any textbooks or any regular books about topics that interest you?

According to a video me and Shock watched, Fusion is a bit of a controversial topic, as it actually has never been tested entirely in scientific conditions. And i can learn the topic at whatever level is demanded of me really,

One of the more interesting things we've learned about in Physics so far is time travel. I think it would be fun to put some more research into that for an essay

...Do how scientist date rocks using Uranium 238 and Carbon-14. Haha not the most impressive topic but It includes Half-life, and half-life is amazing! see what I did there.

    I c wat u did thar,
but carbon dating gets boring as hell, because it is a paper about mass spectrometry.
I've done a paper on mass spec and I don't recommend it.

M-Theory is the most boring adaptation of all of the string theories...

Perhaps forgehub isn't the best place to ask that question.

do one on what affect the moon has on the earth and what would happen if it were no longer there. or particle quantization (i think thats what the scientific term for teleporting is)
