Thousands of meters below the desert sands, these mysterious caverns are heavily contested. 1v1 Slayer only.

This is Plasma Rifle Elite with my first 1v1 map! I know that I just posted my "The Flood V2" yesterday, but I had that map finished for weeks, and in that time, I was finally able to finish this map.

    Features:

This 1v1 cave map on Sandbox has features other cave maps don't. For example, it's not built on the middle level. It's not in the Crypt. It's not in the Laser Field. So where is it? It's in the Skybubble! Why? One, I can easily show you an overview of the map. Two, the wind whistling in the background is a haunting effect in a cavern. It sounds like a gust blowing through the cave. And three, it means that I can make death pits!

    Gameplay:

This map plays straight-up 1v1 Slayer, or the Duel gametype, whichever you prefer. Never have more than two players, because then the Starting Points get messed up. A player could spawn right beside their enemy. Or, worst-case scenario, a player could spawn out of the map. So don't have more than two players. Dual-wielding is key on this map. I've made camping possible on this map, but if you don't like campers, don't get mad, because the angular walls are perfect for grenade bounces to flush out camping enemies. Still, watch out for assassinations, enemies could be behind any corner you ignore. All campers, be warned that if you camp, you're more likely to lose when your enemy nails you with Grenades.

    Forging:

The map has red and blue lights on it to help you orient yourself. There is a Gloomy FX on the map, placed in the central death pit, so you can easily delete it. The map has two death pits. the map is mostly symmetrical. But, in real life, it's impossible for a cave map to be 100% symmetrical, so I made slight imperfections on each side. Like a real cave, some of the walls are rough. Look in a real cave, not everything is smooth. Don't worry, though, the floor's not bumpy.

    Weapons/Equipment/Vehicles:

There are no vehicles on the map, and with the exception of four Fragmentation Grenades, there's no equipment. Weapons are mostly human, with the exception of twin Plasma Rifles.

Battle Rifle x4 (30 second respawn, 2 clips)

Assault Rifle x2 (30 second respawn, 2 clips)

Submachine Gun x4 (30 second respawn, 2 clips)

Plasma Rifle x2 (45 second respawn)

Sniper Rifle x1 (180 second respawn, 1 clip)

Shotgun x1 (180 second respawn, no clips)

Fragmentation grenade x4 (10 second respawn)

    Screenshots:

Now, you've read enough words, now onto the screenshots!

Looking down from Sniper Rifle Hallway (Contains Sniper Rifle) into Central Death Pit Room. Watch out, there's a death pit in here, too. A good strategy is to leave the Sniper Rifle and hide behind one of the walls, as shown here by my Spartan. Then, when your enemy sees the Sniper Rifle, he will run in and you can assassinate him!

Sniper Rifle Hallway death pit. The one one people fall into the most, because they don't see it.

Looking into the Shotgun Trench Room (Contains 1 Shotgun).

Shotgun spawn. It's a good idea to hunker down in this hole and defend yourself here, although watch out for Grenades!

Remember, watch out for those death pits!

Thanks to all testers that participated and gave me suggestions to make the map better!

My next map to be released is my Gravemind remake, as part 2 of my Infected Map Pack (Unless people want a V2 of this map).

wow- not only have you made a very nice looking competitive cave map, but you've included effects in a VERY good-looking way, and I like the death pits too. this is certainly getting a DL.

Pretty nice, I still need to dl it, but I thought I would comment because I really think that the size of these style maps would increase exponentially if they were made on either the ground level or even better the crypt floor, via natural walls and a floor to base you map off of, but look good I'll give it a try.

This looks sweet! I can't help but having a forge-gasm every time a new cave map comes out. I like how this is unique with the death pits and whistling sound. Also I like the shotgun spawn and the collapsed sniper spawn, does it collapse after a certain amount of time? that would be be cool. I don't have anything to complain about, its super smooth, seems fairly large etc. Now the only problem is that i don't like 1v1 =P. 5/5 for a cave map

2 death pits seems like a bit much, but what ever. This is still a finely crafted cave map, and looks pretty damn realistic. I've been considering making a cave map... but I really don't know.

Also, you did a good job of making sure that the heiroglyphics on the blocks don't show. That just shows the effort you put into this!

Ran around on this last night, and I thought I'd offer my two cents for what it's worth.

The main issue I have with this map is it's lack of connectivity. You basically have one large death pit (I'll get back to that) that connects all of the other cave rooms together. What I'd love to see you do is connect all of these branches together so it's not just a bunch of one way hall battles. Most successful maps have at least two ways in or out of any given room/area, and your map would benefit exponentially from it.

The other big issue I have with this is twofold: the main death pit and the spawns surrounding it. All of them are actually facing it, which in all honesty is terrible for gameplay. It's a safe bet to say that the majority of players hold the stick forward when they're waiting to respawn, and they way you have the spawns in this room would only lead them to fall to a quick, frustrating death right off the bat. My suggestion here would be to completely eliminate this death pit and focus more on the connectivity that I previously mentioned.

You've got something good going here, it just needs a few adjustments to make a decent map into something unique and great. You've obviously got the talent to make it work, so I'd love to see you attempt it. Good luck, sir.

    Holy Crap...

This is AMAZING!! this map is great to look at, nice layout, slightly confusing, and has great gameplay. This is takes Moon Waffle's place as my favorite 1v1 map [title=stands for Just So You Know]jsyk.[/title]

    Aesthetics: 5/5
Layout: 4.5/5 (Slightly Confusing like I said.)
    Gameplay: 5/5

    [title=I smell a feature coming up!]Overall: 5/5[/title]

I know, but I couldn't bring myself to put a killball or two around the map. Because honestly, what real cave has a death pit with a big glowing ball of death at the bottom?

I have to agree with Squid, the map though great in design seems lacking. Now idk what budget you have left (i didn't go into forge just custom game) but i would suggest adding more ways in and out of the 2 smaller chambers. If you must use an OLN, i used one for Descended Vale and made that huge beast with still budget to spare. I know the deathpits take up alot of budget but i think a v2 thats larger with more connections between the caves would be beast.

I have a question. In the pictures there are blue and red lights. When i played it there were no lights. Were the lights just there in the pictures so you can see better?

I just downloaded it, I love cave maps. And yours is a good one in my opinion, although its very disapointing its only good for 1v1. Are you certain it wouldn't work for 2v2 or 3v3?

The map seems big enough to even work for 4v4 to me.... although it would probably be really hectic lol!

I LOVE your middle death pit. I'm not sure about the other smaller hidden one though. I think its awesome how its so hard to see, but also maybe unfair to the players since well they can't see it. It would be great for a vertical drop to a lower level, but I'm not sure I like the idea of players dying from falling into a tiny pit they didn't even know existed.

I actually want to incorporate a death pit into a cave map idea I have in my head now since your map is so awesome focusing on death pits primarily. I'm not sure if it will be possible on mine or not. I have limitations I will be working with sadly lol. Whenever I finish it one day you will see what I mean by limitations.

The idea of death pits inside a cave map was genious I swear. Did you see that in a cave map before or think of it yourself? I love how you put floor there too instead of just letting the body fall to the middle level of the map. It allows for a death pit, but keeps the asthetic feel of the level intact.

Finally I wouldn't worry about connectivity too much. The entire layout would need to be dramatically altered for more connecting pathways, and it would just become another entire map.

Maybe just try multiple paths on the next map you make, which better be another cave map or I will be sad. Unless you think of something even better lol....

You got my dl. I've been tyring to figure out a way to incorporate the Death floor on SBox for some time now, and never thought of a death pit :) well done.

Also, the detail here is amazing and its not a small cave map like most of em.

Thanks for the good map. Keep em comin'.

I hate to say it, but I tried it with four people, and it was kind of crowded, 1v1 works best. I may make a V2 of this, though. If I have time between now and Halo Reach, i'll make a V2.

Looks very very unique, I haven't had any games on this, but I sure am giving it a download. Great presentation. :)

I'm usually not a fan of cave-maps, but this one has sure caught my attension.

I agree with this guy. Eliminating that center death pit would also free up extra budget to connect some hallways. You want more than one pathway into any area on any and every map, unless it is a power position it may not matter, as long as it is uncampable.

Also, if you do have spawns in that central room, it seems like a death trap to players spawning in there even without the physical death pit. It isn't very big.

Great forging, but gameplay would most likely be minimal in fun factor. It is good to see the idea I started come into full bloom. Cave maps are awesome, but you have to do them right.
