Two nights ago at about 4 AM I was bored so I figured I'd try a kind of chalk-burst-smudge thing that'd been going through my head for a while.

Unfortunately, it turned out almost nothing like what I wanted, and I'm not happy at all with it, but I figure I'll throw it down here and see what people think.

And yeah, I know the text sucks. I just threw it in after I had already given up on the sig itself :p

Very open to constructive criticism, I know it's not very good :p

    Edit:

v2. I'm more happy with this one, actually. It's still not what I was intending but I think it's not half bad standing alone.

This? It's pretty simple...background was a few layers of clouds, with a gradient over them (I think it's too solid colorey, though...whatever). Then I took the stock and just smudged it with a chalk brush with different settings, moved them around a little, set them to different layer options. I did some other stuff with the smudging of his shoulders and a separate 'head' part for the subtle-ish lense flare...but that's essentially it. Pretty simple.

Nice man, it looks so great but yet simple. Has a modern look to it.
I don't even know what program to use, its probably something I'd have to buy correct?

I have Photoshop CS4, which was ridiculously (comparatively to the retail price) cheap at my University Center. However, GIMP (gimp.org) or GIMPshop (gimpshop.com) are good free alternatives.

Add something to the background, and slap on a few gradient maps.
    T'would improve it greatly.
