This is a simple picture I made to decorate my desktop background, nothing fancy, just simple and to the point. CnC please.

IMO, i like the earlier version a lot better.

But yeah, this is pretty cool, what program did you use to make it?

very nice, except one thing, on the new version.. a lens flare would not be behind the planets.. those are an effect that the light creates on the lens itself

the 'new' version was after me being pissed off I put it in the wrong proportions in the original, and doing a rush job :(

I used adobe photoshop 7 to do this image.

Lense flare and colour distortions should be infront of the planets, as they are a trick on the eyes, not a physical distortion of light.

I'd say that the first one is a really good start, but the 2 planets look far too much alike, and there seems to be an absence of any noise or atmospheric effects. Even in space there is gas and debris. The whole image looks clean, so id recommend just looking at some astronomy images for reference and try making it look a bit more believable.

Yeah, I agree. It confused my eyes a little bit when I saw it, I have some pretty cool desktop backgrounds, but I would suggest getting one with more planets, or stars, or more objects in the picture.

Here is one that I found that I like, and would suggest - http://www.world-mysteries.com/mpl_photos/astronomy/cassiopeia_nasa1.jpg

Well, I realize that the lens flare was a mistake I made and it was not meant to be as cluttered as space actually is, so I made it more simple.

However, I am now taking my time on a new image that is similar to this one, but more realistic. I will attempt to vary color and size in the stars, add debris and improve on the planets' texture.

EDIT: I have been working on the new version, and it has twisted far from what I was planning...it is definitely more realistic. New one should be up in about an hour.
