I just finished watching X-Play: Best games of 2007 and the Nominees for Game of the year are above. Before they told me what the Nominees were, I was able to guess five of them correctly. I figured: Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Halo 3, COD4, Super Mario Galaxy, & Orange Box; just barely off... Anyway, take a vote at the game you think would have won it (This is a Halo community but try not to make the vote unanimous..) I'll post what X-Play voted the game of the year as soon as the years over. Anyway, have fun voting, and settle any and all dispute with eachother in the Parking lot.

hmmm.... I say call of duty 4 because of its intense gameplay and its photorealistic graphics. Although it will have to compete with Halo 3 which comes in at a close second place. then it goes orange box, mass effect, assassins creed, and then super mario galaxy. At least thats what i think.

Thats actually incorrect...I was very surprised by the results, and your pretty far off... I dont know why everyone votes mario galaxy last...It honestly beat out Halo 3, Assassins Creed, and Orange Box (TF2 Specifically) for Best Action/Adventure game of the year (But not Game of the Year...Oops did I just say that?) So dont diss teh Mario Galxee if you dont got teh Wii!!

In my opinion, the Orange Box is one of the best games out there. But on the poll, I would have to say CoD4 tied with Halo 3. I haven't played Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Bioshock, or Super Mario Galaxy yet. I know, I should.

The 6 options above are actually the top 6 games (In G4's opinion) In no specific order, except for one, which is the game of the year...

I see Bioshock winning because of the depth of the story if you listen to ll the diaries. But Halo has the most **** in a game by far.

    Assassins Creed
Never played it, don't like stealth action games/

    Mass Effect
This game was ridiculously disappointing. I really liked KotoR but hated this. The main story is terribly short. Biotic and Tech powers are completely useless. If you aren't a soldier the game is ridiculously hard unless you do the PAINFULLY boring sidequests where every building is exactly the same. The game features no facial expressions whatsoever.

    BioShock
What can I say? Worst game ever made, right after Oblivion. There are only two types of enemies, Splicers and Big Daddies. There are a handful of Splicer varieties but overall they're all pretty much the same. The Big Daddies are a rare fight and are more of a chore than anything. On hard the first Big Daddy fight is impossible, unless you get it stuck on a wall which is fairly easy. The combat itself was incredibly mediocre. The guns quickly became useless and were replaced by the larger guns. The upgrade system was useless. The "ammo customization" scheme was painfully over exaggerated and serves little purpose. "Creating your own ammo and weapons" is virtually a lie, its just another way to acquire the same old ammo and weapons you can get any other way. With a few tonics, the wrench will kill anything in one hit and you can walk right up to enemies without them seeing you. All the powers are completely useless, save for the Bee Hive power which acts as a permanent stun. The "Turn Big Daddy" power would be useful if he actually attacked enemies before they hit you, and if he didn't turn on you virtually all the time. The entire setting was impossible to be immersed in, it was just System Shock's sci-fi setting forced into a steam punk era. And no amount of genetic engineering is going to let you shoot fire from your hands. Its magic. The whole storyline is based on the atrocious works of Ayn Rand, whom no professional person respects. Her awful writing was only appreciated by clueless college students looking for something to latch onto. The tape system has been done before in Doom 3, and makes no sense in the steampunk setting. The plot twist can be seen from a mile away by anyone who listens to all the tapes, and everyone knows a plot twist is coming because its just SYSTEM SHOCK again in a steampunk world.

    Halo 3
Halo 2 but better. Fine by me. If only they hadn't butchered the storyline and shoved a bunch of **** down our throats with a painfully short and easy single player campaign. Brutes have SO MANY animations where they roar at you or look pissed or whatever that they hardly ever spend any time shooting at you. Playing through Halo 3 on Legendary alone with all the skulls turned on (excluding Black Eye and Iron) is significantly easier than Halo 2 on Legendary. The theater system is a nice addition, if it weren't so horribly gimped by the way the game loads content. Watching videos is extremely painful, and if you to get your media out there you have to use a capture card anyway. Forge, oh god.. Forge. What it could have been. Did no one sit down and brainstorm ideas for forge? There are so many simple features that could have been added that weren't. Placing objects is monstrous, there should be options for automatically rotating an object to 90 degree angles. Multiplayer is good. Can't complain about that.

    Call of Duty 4
Never played it, I have an aversion to mediocre generic WWII (based) shooters created be EA or Ubisoft or whatever.

    Super Mario Galaxy
Decidedly mediocre. Yet another flagship title that makes little use of the Wii Remote at all. Extremely easy to acquire all 120 stars, except for the two or three levels that actually do require you to tilt the controller. Those levels are excruciatingly painful to play through.

    Conclusion
Halo 3 wins simply for having a polished multiplayer experience that took three games to achieve. Everything else failed completely, Halo 3 only failed marginally. There have been no really good games this year. :(

    @ Esponeo:???....

How do you hate every game, and come to a conclusion that H3's the best, because it's not terrible. And you should really play CoD4. The campaign is fun, and the multiplayer can be insanely fun at times.

It's called the lesser of the evils. Like when everyone voted for George Bush instead of Al Gore or John Kerry*.

I'll agree. Doesn't make it a good game though.

Super Mario Bros 2 told a pretty good story too.

I really don't think anyone ever called Bioshock innovative. Absolutely nothing about it is innovative. The primary things that have been praised about it are its ability to immerse you in the setting and the story. If you do a point by point analysis of Bioshock, anyone, and I mean anyone, will be forced into a corner where the only way they can justify that the game is even remotely good is by holding up the setting and story as some kind of Holy Grail. Because taking System Shock and making it steampunk is so incredibly immersing. Anyone who thinks Bioshock's setting is immersive must also think The Wild Wild West was a good feature film. And as someone who reads books and plays RPGs, I am embarrassed to be a part of the same species that thinks Bioshock has a good story.

It certainly didn't help that every last one of Ken Levine's promises was a complete lie. They claimed to have a hired programmers specifically to work on the water code. What I got in the final game was the same generic, boring water as every other game I have ever played. They claimed you would be able to create your own weapons and ammo, and touted the upgrade system as revolutionary. In the end "creating weapons and ammo" meant simply finding crap off enemies, going to a station and getting the same old weapons and ammo you always had. They might as well have just had the enemies drop the ammo and cut out the middle man. As for the upgrade system, what was the point, really? Perhaps they should have just balanced the game better. Even with the upgrades the early weapons quickly become completely useless.

AND MORAL CHOICES! The developer touted the moral choice of saving the little girls as nothing like anyone has ever seen before. Except in Fable, KotoR, and countless other games. And considering there is essentially no visual representation of a dead girl, you have nothing to feel bad about. Not to mention that it is EXPONENTIALLY more rewarding to save the little girls, making it not much of a choice at all. And what do your supposedly deep moral choices amount to at the end of the game? If you save all the girls, you get a certain ten second CGI sequence. If you don't, you get a different ten second CGI sequence. Both are horrifyingly boring and don't advance the story whatsoever.

    * John Kerry was so forgettable I sat here for a good two or three minutes trying to remember his name.

    1. Mass Effect-
I never played KOTOR so I cannot compare it to that. But the rest of what you said makes no sense to me. The game is not hard at all, and the biotic powers simply pwn enemies. Fanboys say that playing as a soldier is the 'noob' way to play it. I played as vanguard (biotic/soldier) and it was extremely fun. The biotic abilties are very useful in combat, sometimes essential.

I do agree about the sidequests though, god those were so f'ing lame. Same thing over and over. I think they could have done more with it, but overall it is still the best rpg on 360. I prefer japanese rpg's, but there havent been any great ones on 360. I played enchanted arms, that game was... ehh... it was fun to level up, thats it.

    2. COD4:MW-
For a long time i was determined to hate this game. Its actually pretty good you should check it out. Oh and Im not sure if thats a typo or if you really know nothing about the game at all but.. it is not a WW2 game, its modern.

I disagree with pretty much everything else you said but there was no point in quoting it.

Hence why I said WWII based. Its an evolution of the previous WWII games in the series. And I have been debating purchasing it for the PC.

I spent a large amount of time at the start of the game being instantly killed by rocket enemies and then getting sent back two hours because the game never gives you useful checkpoints. I was forced to save every ten minutes manually out of fear. Being afraid to continue playing because you're worried about getting ****ed and losing all your progress is not a good feeling to have while playing a game.

I played a Vanguard also. I never used the Biotic powers on my own character, just a pistol. Anytime I did try to cast a biotic power I was killed instantly during the casting animation. I almost always utilized Ashley Williams and the other male human*. I never, ever used his Biotic powers either. I did however occasionally utilize his tech powers during combat. The problem with the biotic abilities is that regular enemies can be killed so quickly that the biotics are unnecessary, and the slower-to-die bosses are completely unaffected by biotics.

*I can't remember his name, hes the same voice actor as Carth from KotoR so that's the name I always have in my head for him.

I don't really want to vote. KotOR, OoT and Goldeneye are the best games ever. But if we are going by year it is either CoD4 or Halo 3.

Halo 3's campaign was pretty short put I thought Marty's music was played at the perfect times and made it feel epic at the time. Halo 3's multiplayer is good. I personally don't like matchmaking much. The ability to customize almost everything with forge and custom game options though makes it awesome.

CoD4 I haven't finished the campaign so I won't comment on it. The multiplayer is pretty fun despite their being many things wrong with it. (Higher leveled people can be playing with level 1's and teams are usually never balanced. Also higher level people gain 'perks' which allow them to furthe dominate the lower leveled people they are playing against.

Both fun games though. That was just me trying to find what I could that were wrong about both. They are both good games. I haven't played any of the other games on the list.

I voted for Bioshock. The game was incredibly engaging and kept me on the edge of my seat for hours and hours. The story was simply great, and the gameplay was very tense.
Mass effect would be my second choice because i think it is one of the greatest sci-fi stories ever told. The universe of the game is more interesting than Star Wars even. The auto-save feature did suck though.
Halo 3 comes in third. The amazing multiplayer and forge modes make up for everything the campaign lacked, and it lacked a lot. Gravemind boss fight anyone?
Call of Duty 4 had a pretty good campaign but I've been there way too many times to to be impressed. The multiplayer IS addictive, but is not as deep, as balanced, or as fun as Halo 3.
I am looking forward to playing Assassin's Creed but can't find anywhere to rent a copy, and i'm not about to buy something i haven't played.
No plans to get a Wii, although Super Mario Galaxy looks great.

There is one problem with this poll. Isn't it alittle biased due to the fact that ForgeHub.com is a Halo 3 website?
