[Chunger's Photo Tips Okay, I'm not an amazing Photoshopper (YET!), but I do know a LOT about photography. I have seen some signatures/images/pictures and other stuff that lacks good photo structure and flow. I'm going to teach you many of the basics of professional photography and the things to double check before finishing the picture. Lets get started with definitions and pictures to give you some examples. Before we start we need to mention on VERY important part of photography. The Center of visual interest or CVI. The CVI is the place that you the human eye should glance at FIRST. It is the main object of a photo, or the main point, if you will. Simplicity-One thing going on in a picture, using a clean background. Rule of thirds- too hard to explain in words, this picture of a sheep gives you an example. See how the sheep is located at the crossing point on the seperation lines, try putting you CVI of your sig/picture/image in any of these areas and you're sigs/pictures/images will look better, more appealing, and pleasing to the eye. Leading Lines- lines in the photo that lead to the CVI. For example, below are some train tracks that lead the the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Leading lines are important becasue they lead the eyes to the CVI which in this camp is in inside of the camp. You can use C4D's for this as well. Just experiment with this. Balance-Objects in Foreground and Background the provide information on the basis behind the picture. Short depth of field-a.k.a close up...Short distance covered within the photo. Long depth of field-Long distance covered within the photo. Framing-objects in the image frame the CVI and make it stand out. High angle view-shows things from higher angles. (Only used for larger pictures not so much sigs.) low angle view-shows things from lower angles. repetition of object/form-object/form repeating more than 3 times. Selective focus-CVI is in the sharpest focus while background is blurred. (This is a very crucial part to drawing attention to the CVI.) I hope these helped you guys and I hope to see some pretty damn awesome stuff created here. OH sorry, last time I checked there already is some... hahaha. If these tips helped feel free to leave a message and let me know. Same goes for questions.
Rule of thirds is not a solid rule and does not apply in many instances. Leading lines are also usually called 'lead-ins'.
This not only helps in GnA, but in the Halo 3 Screenshots section as well. I've been telling people for months how to compose better shots; this covers all the major points I discuss, explicitly framing and Rule of Thirds. Nice write up, real easy to follow. Good job!
