Reach expectations

    Okay guys this thread is not for your delusional little wish-list, this is for expectations of what you think will be in reach, these must be based on FACT, not "I heard this from my friend". Okay here is what I expect reach will have to offer.


    • Engine looks like it has been redone by the look of the latest trailer they released, the warthog physics in the opening seconds look pretty epic and I don't think they would base of the Halo 3 engine again because they did that with ODST. In ODST the graphics were quite improved because they tweaked the engine. If the cut-scene is actual in-game graphics like I hope it is, then the engine can't have been tweaked to look like that, it must have been redone or extremely updated.
    • Multi-player has most likely been improved. The networking has been fixed as they would not be doing a BETA test which is quite obvious is testing network strain. Dedicated servers maybe? :D I think the multi-player maps will have been made to be more competitive and maybe based of some custom content in matchmaking currently?
    • Forge, this is a tricky subject because forge was originally just an incentive to buy the game, it wasn't intended to be what it is today, Bungie admitted that themselves. I think it is quite possible that we will have an incredible new forge mode to play with when Reach is released.
    Thread additions:

    • The covenant is expected to be in reach because of the overwhelming evidence from the book and the covenant ship in the premiere trailer.
    • New custom gametype additions. This relies on there being a forge (see above) and a custom game lobby obviously. I dont think Bungie would leave out a custom game lobby. If any news on either of these discounts their existence then this will be removed from the list.

    I cant think of anymore at the moment. I had more I just forgot what they were -.- Ill update if I remember.

    Comment on my ideas, if you have any compelling facts that will prove any of these are wrong then tell me and ill remove that idea. Any good and fact based ideas will be added to this OP.

    Firefight, it was popular in ODST and is likely to be included in Reach.

    Yeah, they know how big forge is now. If they didn't put forge in Reach, I would not buy the game. I am sure the forge will be incredible. I would want more custom game options. I like to invent games. The more custom options the better. I would also like to see a racing game variant. That would be sweet.

    I expect:
    • Few campaign missions that are just you wandering through the level (no more "hero" of the game business)
    • Improved AI - when working with an AI squad, i'd expect their intelligence to be near enough the level of how the player works. It'd be nice if the first mission was you doing some "training" to make sure your upto scratch, and basing how you complete each area determines how the AI in your Squad acts.

    steve your first option is awesome, and also, if this game had a Firefight-like game mode AND forge.... wow. that would be heaven in a disk.

    There will be updated weapons, and hopefully Bungie used what they learned from Halo 3's br/ar controversy so that all weapons will be well balanced. i have heard a lot about plasma being way too weak for what it should be, so maybe the covenant weapons will be beefed up a little.

    Yes I expect the gametype options will update and im hoping as you touched on that you can mix and match gametypes. :p

    Have you got evidence for the first one?
    AI will be included but nothing suggests that it will be improved unless the engine as I mentioned before is updated or remade.

    New weapons is pretty much definite and balancing will be fixed. I wont add this to the OP tough as there isn't anything to prove it other than a "Leaked image" which could have been easily faked with a dev kit. Untill there is further proof (I cant remember seeing any in the cutscenes) it will not be added.

    As long as there is a trip mine just like the one from the Halo 3 beta, I'll love Reach.

    I would like things like:

    Falling Damage On/Off
    Assassinations On/Off
    Black armor color (maybe secondary only if it is cheap for blending into night?)
    customize leg armor, back armor, arms, feet
    vehicle- Hawk
    return of teh Elephant (or maybe a flying version of an Elephant!)

    Is reading the rules? ¬.¬ I think the point of posting a thread is commenting on the OP. I'm sure you read it, you were just to ignorant to adhere.

    Well, Its been stated that Reach uses a new engine so your first part can be taken out.

    AI programming isn't easy. its hard enough to make them do simple stuff. It would be near impossible to program models to do things actual humans do. They talked about this in one of their weekly updates.

    1. Please link to it. It wont be taken out because that is an expectation, even if it is true.

    2. No ****. Were not talking about if its hard or not, were discussing what will most likely be in reach due to facts, even tough that expectation wasnt really based of fact, it was based of need.

    I'll get the link for the second thing as well. They stated they cannot program an AI like a human. You can't expect something that can't happen.

    They may have stated they cannot program AI like a human but they didn't mention there's workarounds.
    Coding is all logic, it's all if's and else's. If teammate moves into cover over there, move into cover there also, else wait untill command. See, thats very human like, he didn't want human AI, he wanted player like AI. Players think differently when playing, they think tactically, which is can be easily created. Many other games have extremely good AI systems which are very human like.

    Working on it but sifting through bungie for their updates is like hell (especially for this slow piece of crap i've got for a computer). Is there a compilation of their weekly updates? I can't even find the past ones.

    My bad, I meant player like. The problem on making player like is if an enemy takes cover, there could be 10 different things a player might do at that time. However an AI will have one thing in mind. You can make them somewhat player like but Not completely.

    Other games have good AI systems but they aren't perfect.

    AI programming is more than if's and else's. Theres also delay statements :)

    This seems highly unlikely to me that Bungie would in-game graphics in a cut-scene but I hope you prove me wrong.

    The last bungie weekly update had that questionnaire and one question was if it was in game and they said it was.
