Besides saying Originality.... I want to know EXACTLY what people like in maps.. I've seen far too many maps just disappear in the forge discussion before they've even managed to be tested. Just vote on what you like... If your option isn't listed... post it in the thread
I like fun games, Not everly keen on MLG and the sort. As long as the map plays well and don't look too shabby i'll probably DL it.
Dont ever make a map on an area that you're not completely interested in. Make the map for yourself, not the community or to get a silly feature. You'll not only be more happy that way, you'll make a better map.
lol its not about the feature... its about making a map that gets used and people really enjoy.. I enjoy all of my maps when i play them because i hear people say "Oh woooww look at that" or "OMG Thats where you get rockets from" or "that looks realllyy nice" thats what keeps me forging.. i'm happy with all my maps that i put effort into (and some that i never really did put effort into e.g. confined) whether people like them or not.
...and that's what really cou- Wait what am I saying? I tend to like casual competitive games and casual games. I like maps with great aesthetics and great gameplay, regardless of the size, weapons or type. I always tend to lean towards small asymmetric maps and maps that are good with one bomb and one flag.
I voted for the game variant option. I hate when somone makes a map that is not set up for any kind of game type. The funny thing is, when I forge a map, I always start with the game variant. I basically come up with an idea, make sure it's possible in the game options and then build a map around that. It's different if you are making a competitive map though. Then you can just set it up for all the different game variants. Casual & Mini Game maps need to have more attention to an actual working game variant. Somtimes I would just look through the game options just to see if I can turn one option into some sort of game play. Most of the original ideas have already been done. For example, I made a map that I never published called Battle Skulls. It was based on the one option that I found where the guy on the back of a mongoose can hold the Odd Ball while they are on the back! It's true what they say about making the map for yourself. Make a map or game because you like it and want to make it. Not because you want to get a lot of DL's or a feature. I am not saying that you are doing this, I am just throwing it out there. You really have to ask yourself, what kind of genre do you like? What would the game play be like? What map would best suite your idea? There are lot of attributes that make great maps, great. Pick one and run with it. You will never know if the comunity likes it until you publish it.
I voted for a specific gametype because those are just so much more fun to learn and will definitely be remembered. Maybe make your own gametype and you never know, it could be the next Conquest. So, if you really want attention make a mini game because I already know your a really good forger seeing your other maps.
If you can edit the poll please add this HEAVY yes the kind of map where something blows up every second Halo matchmaking is made to be incredibly competitive. On the other hand I prefer the quick fun CoD type gameplay where you have big guns and lots of stuff that goes BOOM.
asymmetric and game type specific. I don't why I enjoy asymmetric maps, I just do. As for game type specific, I enjoy that because they're fun to play with a whole bunch of friends.
thanks for the input guys... Im trying to keep my own interests in it as well, which is why i havnt put an option for Race Tracks, and i dont particularly like infection, it was just an example for the above lol.. Its strange though, i personally voted for More Height change in maps, symmetrical maps and buildings with aesthetic appeal. Two of those are actually the top two. My newest idea was going to be an Asymmetrical Free for All based map, possibly in the crypt that uses obscure shapes and rooms. The biggest thing i wanted to deal with was height change, however, what i have in mind.. once again.. isnt constructable inside the budget.
I think the reason people like asymmetric maps compared to symmetric map is because when you are in the enemys base it feels different. And you should include an asthetic choice
