This model flags the beginning of my University application portfolio for Architecture. It's also the first time i have used Sketchup creatively for probably about a year. The building is far from finished, and requires exterior landscape, however i thought it was at a stage where i could show it to you guys, and hopefully get some honest critique and suggestions. Currently i am unsure on the colours i have included, and wether i should expand the design to include more rooms.

The shape and orientation may baffle you, so i'll explain. I designed this building to be situated against a fairly steep hillside. Because of this, the entrance is on the upper floor, which in real terms would represent the ground floor. The floor below would be partially submerged underground (the areas without the windows basicly).

My goals were to create something minimalistic in style, and also something that would compliment the surrounding landscape, while using basic and in some instances natural materials. Uses of wood on both the interior and exterior should help it incapsulate itself in a natrual landscape, to create something that is subtly perfect. The building is intended to be small, and at current has no rooms per se. A bedroom and bathroom will be included on the lower floor, and a kitchen possibly on the upper.

    Interesting work...
I like the side of the building with the bricks on second level. It's quite unique and has an appealing look.

Historically speaking, good architecture blends in with the surrounding background. Therefore, your awareness of the landscape is essential to a successful design. The interior looks modern, which is a big plus for me. Essentially, an aesthetically appealing design along with functionality should be the main goals of architects for me at least.

Those stairs don't look structurally possible. What material would they be made out of? And if that's a fireplace to the right of the stairs in the 4th pic, I think it's too big.

Other than that, it looks very nice. I wish I could learn to use sketchup that well.

It's a little too open, you might want to add some cover. Also I don't see any weapons.

    Srsly:

Looks good. Definitely passes for a lot of the modern architecture you see on HGTV. Defining what each space is for would bring it to life a bit more, but the layout is very clean and interesting.

The modernized design such as the built in shelves and fireplace really catches my eye. It's nice to see some of the interior design you are working on a bit too, but the architecture/design is really what this is about, and I must say that this looks really appealing to me at least.

Looks good. There's a plugin-based renderer for SketchUp called Podium, maybe you can use that. It's well suited to architectural renders;I'm sure your pics would look phenomenally better if you learned to use it well.

I got podium, and in the past half hour i have made this tower block. The mod is free but unfortunately the free version has a limit on rendering capability up to a maximum of 500x500 pixels. I am however considering purchasing the £40 version that would allow me to render images at full HD, although it would take some 20 hours per image.

if you are looking to show your work to a employer, i would recommend putting in some spawn points for a joke.
