Mythic DLC Golf: A Spartan's Open

So, after many months of sitting on the back burner, I have finally gotten around to honing this gametype and I feel it is now ready a full-fledged release.

As many of you know, I created this gametype quite some time before Bungie gave us the Golf Ball or Tin Cup as a placeable object in forge. I wanted a game that was both fun and pretty laid back all in one package. Golf was my answer. Through use of the VIP gametype, I made it so that there is a ball, caddy and golfer on each 2-player squad. As in real life, this game requires some gentlemans' rules and they are:

General Golf Rules

There should be no more than two (2) players per team

There should be no more than four (4) teams

The party leader's team has honors at first tee-off of the game... every new game after that, honors to first tee goes to the winner of the last game played

All teams must abide by the "one hitting at a time" only on tee-off at each hole

"Honors" at each holes' tee-off goes to the team that won the previous hole

Only after the last team's ball has landed and come to a rest may everyone commence the free-for-all to the pin (goal point)

The Roles:

As stated, each team has both a Golfer and a Ball/Caddy. Each role is very important to the outcome of the game. First we will cover the Golfer.

It is the Golfer's responsibility to ensure his ball makes it to the hole before any other teams arrive. He has his but two tools to make this happen - the Gravity Hammer (which acts as the player's Driver and Irons) and the Brute Shot (which acts as the Chipper and Putter). It is up to the player to hone his skill and learn how these tools work in conjunction with the Ball in order to be the most effective. For instance, knowing that the Hammer will hit the ball slightly to the left 90% of the time. The one and only rule besides getting your ball to the hole before others do, is that you cannot intentionally hit another team's ball.

Once you have learned these things, you will be able to tackle bigger and badder courses. Here are some in-game shots from various courses of some of these actions at work.

Now that we've talked about the Golfer, it's time to give mention to his partner - the Ball/Caddy.

Every team will be assigned a VIP at the beginning of the round. The VIP plays both of these parts. There are Mongii at the Country club and thse will act as your transport. Whether he's flying through the air, end over end, until finally crashing into the wall, bouncing off of it into the man cannon and flying further across the map or he's driving his Golfer to the next hole or he's giving his Golfer some advice, the team's VIP is a very integral part to the game. The main rule of being the Ball is that once you are in play, you cannot drive the Mongoose at all. If the Mongoose flips, you are permitted to turn it back over and get back on, but you cannot drive it. Once a hole is complete, you may drive to the next tee-off.

Lastly, what would Golf be without courses? Let's talk about those briefly.

Each course that is made is designated a Difficulty Level based upon how hard the teams must work to get to each of the holes. There are five (5) Difficulty Levels that any current or future course is classified under: Beginner (Easy), Intermediate (Normal), Expert (Hard), Pro (Very Hard), Legendary (Almost Impossible). You will be given one hour to complete a course which, most of the time, is more than enough.

The courses themselves are comprised of different challenges and obstacles that teams must overcome inorder to get to the hole. These challenges can simply be placing the hole in a precarious place or placing something in front of the hole making it more difficult to get to. It is up to each individual team to devise a strategy to win each hole. Due to the lack of channels available for use, Every course has at most twelve (12) unique holes. If a final score has not been reached, teams begin "recycling holes." Due to the scoring system built into the gametype, you will never play more than 18 holes in one game.

Lastly, every course follows some standards for tees and holes. They are as follows:

The first Tee-off is always marked by two swords

Every Tee-off after the first is marke by a teleporter node placed on its side

The last hole before holes are recycled is marked by two lit Receiver Nodes

Receiver Nodes and other scenery can also be used to guide teams to the next hole when the tee-off isn't apparent

woah. that looks impressive.

so to scored you have to get your vip (ball) onto the goal point? and there are 12 of those? a little confusing even though i did read the WHOLE post haha

this is definatly gonna get my dl and a lot of plays. this game idea looks very fun and challenging too.

I have never seen anything like this before. The way the golf ball IS the VIP on a mongoose… is genious. Definite dl from me.

PS: that is the most confusing mini game ever made. I'll need to print off a sheet with all the honour rules and important information to play it...

i thought this was pretty boring an idea, but then i DLd it for the heck of it and it was very fun. this should get bungie favorites. the courses are pretty hard and i like the open ones better and i tried the sandbox one which was very hard, 5/5 idea

I love me some Golf. Its definitely a great casual game. Very fun and equally frustrating (like real golf) for the harder courses.

Great job i have only downloaded the first course but i am looking forward to getting good enough to play the final course on sandbox...btw good job for finally getting a golf map and gametype together that actually work.

Just DLed it; haven't been able to play it yet, but the idea is startlingly clever. Not much else to say. It looks like a rather interesting game when the only people online are you and your friend and no-one else wants to paly with you, and still have fun. This not only thinks outside the box, but outside the triangle outside the box!

Golf is an awesome casual game when you just want something a bit different to play. If your fed up of killing your fellow spartans and bathing the battlefields in their blood then take them to a new field of battle; the tee off.

Seriously its a fun game to play with a couple of friends and play something that's totally out of the box then golf is your thing. Plus the maps are ingeniously forged, especially the pre DLC.

All in all I recommend it
