Alright, so for my English class I need to write a novel and I decided to make mine in the Halo universe. So I have a few question for those of you who know a little more about Halo then just the games.
My first question is: "Were the UNSC still fighting rebel forces before the covenant attacked Earth? (As in they knew the Covenant existed, but they still attacked rebels)"
And, "Was Earth evacuated before the Covenant attacked? If so, to where?"

Oh, and if you can, mention where you got the information from. Thanks :)

If you have to read this out loud I feel bad for you.

Because no matter how you phrase it, Halo cant sound cool when summarized.

Thankfully I don't have to read it aloud. But have you read the books? They're not too bad.

And thanks, that fits perfectly into my storyline :D

I've read the books, but Ive also tried explaining them.
Pissed aliens come, dominate humans, humans capture 6 year olds, force them to beef up, kill aliens...

    didn't go so well...

Haha, yeah I guess you're right - it doesn't look too good in a summary form. But once it gets into detail it's pretty epic, especially the killing aliens part.

Put down Halo and pick up something smaller in story. I suggest Ender's game.

I think Enders Game has been already explored to nearly its full potential.

Orson Scott Card has written over Ten novels in the Ender Universe, so coming up with a new storyline for that will be really difficult.

You guys have to write a WHOLE NOVEL for English.....Thats 100,000 words!!!!!! WTF

Ooh, yes, go with go43r's idea, enders game was a freaking amazing book... Do that or if you must do halo do it from the covenants point of view.

Well Halo CE starts directly after the events on Reach, 117 goes with the Pillar of Autumn which leaves Reach as all of the Spartans die. After the events on the 1st Halo that they discover, they go to Earth only to find the Covenant thinking that they found it before the humans. (Cortana says something about this on the levels in New Mombasa)

Was Earth evacuated before Covenant attacks? No. Listen to the Audio Logs on H3: ODST, all of the residents of New Mombasa (Africa) are panicking and being picked off by Covenant troops.

I got this info from Halo: CE, Halo Fall of Reach, Halo 2 and ODST.

If I were writing that novel, I would literally write down all that is said during the audio logs, add the plot and probably not refer to the Covenant as aliens and then turn that in.

Maybe a tad off-topic, but what English class are you in that you have to write a novel? That's no "over the weekend" homework assignment. Also, were you instructed to write it based on another story premise?- because if you weren't, I'd suggest you delve into the most familiar territory there is. Your own imagination. Clearly you aren't the most comfortable with the Halo Universe, and if you indeed must write an entire novel, you need to have a subject that you can just sit down and write about without the added hassles of research.

Yeah, I forgot ODST was on Earth..

But I guess November is national novel writing month, so there's a group the sponsers the novel writing, and they say you should go for 50,000 words

Books and guns don't mix dude. Sorry. Hahaha. I don't think that you have to write a NOVEL do you? A novella maybe, but novels take a long time to make man.

I'm a writer as well. If you want to read one of my stories, you know, for like, inspiration or something click the link below.
