Does anyone else get incredibly annoyed because EPIC constantly ignores problems with their host system and pretends that it doesn't exist?
I am a huge GOW2 fan that has been playing Gears of War for quite a while, yet the only thing that has stopped me from playing is the fact that 1 player in a game can walk around doing more damage and receiving less damage than everyone else. What really gets annoying is that EPIC just hides the problem under the carpet and doesn't plan to fix the problem and never did when they were making GOW2 (because the problem was in the original GOW as well).
Notice how they never show online gameplay in advertisement and only show people playing against CPU players so that you don't see how gameplay really works.

I think that this is probably the only problem in GOW which is why it's multiplayer gameplay fails... If you are in an Xbox LIVE Party with a bunch of people, you should try observing the fact that everyone is yelling "OH THATS BULL (shiznit)!!!" and then tell their story of incredibly unusual things that lead to their death... (this happens to about 80% of my GOW playing friends). It seems as if there is no problem with complaining about these strange events because it can happen when there is a host on the other team. It seems like you cannot actually win or loose a game in GOW because it is all about having a host on your team because the loosing team is at an incredibly huge disadvantage.

People ask me why I believe that other online games (Halo, COD, Battlefield, etc...) are better than GOW, but it is because these games have even teams and fair gameplay.

Does anyone else believe that GOW would be more successful if EPIC decided to listen to their community and create a new system such as making better host system without affecting players (EX: Halo) or Dedicated Servers (COD, L4D, etc...)?

Buddy, I haven't played GoW in months for this very reason. I have been fortunate to be host for a few of my games. But having fun in Gears matchmaking is like Fidel Castro willingly giving up communism. (Well, Fidel's brother)

eh, it was much worse in the first. i dont think its really a huge problem in Gears 2. the host doesnt completely dominate the game like in gears 1, but thats partly due to the changes in the shotty they made. Although i liked it better in the first even with host domination.
i dont think its that hard to kill host, i usually only get killed by pure host advantage maybe once a game. it doesnt bother me too much. still an awesome multiplayer that i'll probably always prefer over halo. i actually get more frustrated when im playing halo or CoD.

Host isnt too hard if you are using a different weapon, but if you are both using the same weapon, the host normally wins... This is a problem because about 80% of the times, the host has the same weapon as you (Shotgun...) so you are screwed in this kind of situation.

The host isn't too hard to kill if you're good at the game. Sure, there are some obvious disadvantages to not having host, but it's not impossible. IMO, the benefits that come with being host aren't as big of a problem as the lag that the rest of the players get when it picks the worst person EVAR to be host. Hopefully, they make some changes with the host system in the next one, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Personally, the main thing I want for GOW is a 10 player FFA, with infinite spawns.

Hell, I want normal execution to have infinite respawns.

Because gameplay online consists of planted frags, smoke spam, and camping.
Stunning players easily to give yourself an advantage does NOT make good gameplay, especially when you can do it on such a large scale.
So when you die unfairly, you shouldn't have to need to wait for a slow paced 5 minutes for your team-mates to finish before you spawn again.
And you shouldn't have to play KOTH or annex or whatever if you want to respawn.
So yeah, spawns, host advantage, and a FFA would persuade me to play it.

    Mainly FFA.
They've got wingman, so they have no excuse not to do this.

it is a very cheap game and theres many things people have suggested to fix it. i have a friend whos worked with cliff blazinski and he said that hes an ass and only cares about what he wants and not the people

Well... due to the fact that the main weapon of Gears of War is the Gnasher (shotgun), you are normally dead whenever you face the host because:

1: The host can take more damage than you
2: The host can do more damage to you
3: The host's shotgun range goes much further.
4: Your melee attacks do not make the host twitch, this means that 2-piecing will not work.

At this point, the victor is determined by whoever is the host. It is not a question of who is more skilled... Due to these huge advantages, the host could be far less skilled than the person facing them and still come out victorious.

The host is only easy to pick off when you are at a distance using a Hammerburst or power weapon, but when you are at close range with shotguns, the host is most likely to win regardless of the skill levels of the two players...

not really. this may be true for gears 1, but its not bad in the second. honestly if the host has a decent connection an so do you, the difference isnt huge. the more skilled player should usually win. if they are close to even, then yes it goes to the host. And wipping doesnt usually work against a skilled player. if the player who gets wipped takes his shot without aiming and just gets an accurate hip fire, he can usually get the shot off before the person who wips can recover from the whip delay and get centered.
i hate games where all the other players can do is press the B button. theres no variety. I either get killed by them and get annoyed, or the more likely outcome, i pop off their head before they get close enough to whip or get a killing shot off after they whip me.

Exactly. If you're good at the game, you'll down the host with your Hammerburst before the Gnasher even comes into play. And if it comes down to shotguns, you can dodge the host's attacks and hit him with a few of your own.

The only thing that pisses me off, is when a host Two-Pieces with the shotgun or Chainsaws, it's nearly unavoidable I find. But really, host isn't a problem when he has a good connection, if that's the case, the benefits he gains are minimal. Although, if he chainsaws, many people try shooting those who raise the lancer with the gnasher, and because you get shotgun lag, he has a window of opportunity to suck you into the vortex (it's what I call the Chainsaw because it sucks you in when you're a good few feet away) because on his screen, you haven't shot yet. I've actually managed to kill someone while they chainsawed me with the shotgun because of the delay. It's not a big deal, just hope that EPIC does the samething IW did to MW2, it's frustrating when someone decides to quit, let alone the host who may be on the other team that's losing decides to quit so you don't get some of that hard earned exp.
