Okay a little background. I have a 60gb internal hardrive that is split into 2 partitions. C: & D: (Both NTFS) C: Is my system drive with all my system files etc in. D: Is a backup drive which I have used for other purposes such as program files etc. My dilema! C: is full, 100+mb left and I wish to merge the 2 partitions. I know it is possible to merge with no data loss but I think I will just copy the D: drive to my external 500gb drive, then unallocate the D: space and expand the C: space then copy all the files back over to C:. Problem! If I were to do the above it would be very time consuming and any program installed on D: would no longer work. I do have a program that can change destinations of programs but I cannot do it to C: because that is full. Do you suggest that I just move all my program destinations to my external hardrive and just get any valuable files off D: then remove D: partition and expand C: Any ideas?
The only way to merge two partitions is to wipe them both and create a new partition unfortunately. Just back it all up and do a full reinstall.
Well no, theres actually tools ive found that merge them without loss of data, what I need is a method of doing it without losing all my apps on my D: drive.
Last time I tried merging a partition, I had complete data loss. You'd be better off doing it the manual way.
If you are on XP you can use Paragon Partition Magic, that can merge partitions and put all of the files in D: into a folder on C:. Doesn't work on Vista though.
