After Mythic II DLC there was quite a bit of talk about the floating glitch on Longshore. [bungievid]94784855[/bungievid] However, it still remained quite unclear just how long you could stay floating. I was determined to answer this and after two minutes of getting wet I came to the conclusion that: Spoiler As long as you damn well want: [bungievid]98279368[/bungievid] Allow me to note that although that video is only one minute long, the swimming session went on for a good deal longer. For those of you who have not expirimented, I have learned that the key component in initiating a float is having force or damage applied to you. There are two methods I have used to successfulness initiate a float. The first is the brute shot. This weapon is great because it fulfills both of the possible prerequisites. However, once you begin a float, there is the difficulty of sustaining it. The brute shot has only limited ability to sustain a float; you must be adjacent to a wall and propel a explosive round so it impacts close enough to you that a force or damage is applied to you. For more open floating, a Gravity Hammer cannot be matched. Regardless of where you swing, a force will always be applied to your person. In addition to sustaining floating, using the gravity hammer is incredibly apt for propelling your soldier at very high speeds. It will be interesting to see how this effect is used in Minigames. Already, it can be seen sporatically in the video provided on the Griffball by the Sea post. Also, I would like to add that Bungie approached the water on Longshore very differently than it did on any of the other Halo 3 Multiplayer maps. Rather, the water is engineered in appearance similar to the water seen in Halo 3: ODST. Because of this similarity, I think the glitch could possibly be present in ODST as well.
Hey, that's my video. Glad you've been experimenting, I'll go have some fun with that a little bit later tonight.
Besides feeling a deep pain of you Having the exact color and armor as myself, I'm glad your taking a plunge into how this glitch works. Could we use it to apply to the movable objects on the map?
I'm making a racing sort of map like this where you're just Spartans (no vehicles), but it's like Rocket Race on the water.
Too bad the water doesn't go on forever, otherwise I could see this put into some good use. As of now, I don't think there's hardly enough room for a decent mini game using this technique.
Me and Menace Tiger are working on a KOTH game which directly implements this idea. Thanks a lot for the great find.
