It's alright, I don't really like that cut-off effect though. For the text, don't blur one side of it, it just makes the text look worse... There's not really much flow going on here, so that's not much to worry about... It's pretty good for your first signature ever, but you've got a lot to improve on
Well, I think that it is ok for a first sig. The pop-out effect is ok, but I think it might be better if the top of his head wasn't cut off. Also, the edges of his arms look a bit blurry, which is a little odd. As far as depth goes, it is pretty good as-is in this signature, but you need to make sure that you don't blur the text (there are some exceptions, but for the most part, you want the text to be crisp). I would recommend adding a light source on the right side of the sig, and using the burn tool to remove the light spots on the back of the focal. I also think the text could be better positioned by moving it closer to the focal, and making it about 30-40% smaller. Once again, it is pretty good for a first sig, nice work! Keep working, and try adding a few more effects. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
Thank you guys. I'm just starting in GIMP, at school I used PS extensively, so everything's kinda weird for me. V2:
The text is much better in this version, and the top of his head looks much better. The depth/blurring is good too. I still think it needs a light source coming from the right, though. Also, if you are having trouble getting accustomed to GIMP, there is always GIMPShop, a GUI-mod for GIMP that re-arranges the menus and docks so that they look like Photoshop CS3's menus and docks.
