"And we present Obama with this award because of his demonstration on how to totally **** ourselves and put us in debt has helped us all in some way... wait a minute..." I agree that it was a bit overkill to give him one... What did he do right? He must have something figured out... do absolutely nothing but **** that gives us debt and get a peace prize!!!!
He didn't put us in debt, you should do some research. Edit: what does the economy have to do with peace?
1. True 2. True 3. Not true. Socialists/Communists and dictators like Chavez, Castro and Qaddafi like us better because of him but many countries do not. 4. Key word promoted. 5. See #4. 6. Wow thanks. 7. The left wing radicals have hijacked the Nobel Peace Prize and use it to promote their agenda.
Not to mention that the nominations were due at a week into Obama's presidency. What did he do in 11 days of being president? Here's a list: January 20th: Obama assumes Presidential Office.Following that, drafts and orders various plans to direct troop movement out of the Middle-East, as well as the closure for Guantanamo Bay. Projected date? January 2010. Improved transparency of presidential records (To what extent, I don't know; read through the legal mumbo) Removed ban on federal funding for foreign establishments that offer abortion (set by Bush prior). January 29th: Signs in Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009Basically stipulates that employees are able to more easily sue their employers on the basis of discrimination (The old decision upheld the 180-day limit of filing complaints about their paychecks when receiving). Then boom! February 1st, receives nomination. Apparently they gave it to him because "they found his promise of disarmament and diplomacy too good to ignore." (Gasps as Obama awarded Nobel Peace Prize - Yahoo! News). "They lauded the change in global mood (that's prize-worthy?) wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease U.S. conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen its role in combating climate change." Cool! Hey Nobel judges, I 'promise' to bring world peace and end world hunger! Can I get a prize too?
I don't understand the point of claiming he did all this stuff so far...he was nominated 9 days after the inauguration. All he did was increase affirmative action.
At least he isn't a douche and flaunting the prize. He is taking it as something to hold him accountable to expanding peace in the world. There's nothing wrong with discussion, but I don't think people should really get all over him or the Nobel Prize Council for it. I do agree it's a bit odd though.
Straight up. And iRaynne, dont be such a doushebag, I was stating my opinion, you know, other people have those too. You know, I take back the deal about him being black, but still... 9 days after being put in the office, all he did was SAY what he wants to do. Just like every other president before making it into office. IMO, he just doesnt deserve it. So chill out with you brainwashed crap, you dont know me nor will you ever so keep your mouth shut about me. Im sick of people telling me I am brainwashed because I chose, ON MY OWN, to be a Christian. Thats beside the point though, either way I am just stating my opinion in the thread so back off.
Had nothing to do with that, pretty sure. Just read through this. IMO what the prize is for is the PR side of it all. He hasn't physically really done much, but think about it...getting the people excited about a president doesn't really happen anymore, nowhere near to the degree of last election. Being the first black President, and so on. I know, the official thing says things he's done, but I think it's all about what he hasn't done yet that matters to that extent. BTW, some of these 'opinions' are way out of line. Keep the personal insults to a minimum, there's holes in everyone's opinions on these kinds of matters and there's no reason to be insulting about it.
I pulled out a copy of Alfred Nobel's will directly off of the Nobel Prize website."The whole of my remaining realizable estate shall be dealt with in the following way: the capital, invested in safe securities by my executors, shall constitute a fund, the interest on which shall be annually distributed in the form of prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind. The said interest shall be divided into five equal parts, which shall be apportioned as follows: one part to the person who shall have made the most important discovery or invention within the field of physics; one part to the person who shall have made the most important chemical discovery or improvement; one part to the person who shall have made the most important discovery within the domain of physiology or medicine; one part to the person who shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction; and one part to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses. The prizes for physics and chemistry shall be awarded by the Swedish Academy of Sciences; that for physiology or medical works by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm; that for literature by the Academy in Stockholm, and that for champions of peace by a committee of five persons to be elected by the Norwegian Storting. It is my express wish that in awarding the prizes no consideration be given to the nationality of the candidates, but that the most worthy shall receive the prize, whether he be Scandinavian or not." Okay, and I already stated that I take back what I said about his being black. Taking that away, I still dont think he deserves it but I am not gonna write an emo song about it. I dont believe in some of his ways or things he supports. Like the whole planned parenthood thing, but thats another subject, just look up Eugenics. Anyway, I was a little heated at first when I found out but my post didnt call for his quoting me with this reply: So I am sorry for insults I have given, my bad. I just think he was a little overboard.
President Obama, I like you, and I'mma let you finish, but Al Gore had one of the best Nobel Peace Prize nominations of all time!
