I really need help with a huge problem with my Hard Drive.

This morning, I turned on my Xbox and the intro screen (with the glowing Xbox logo before you go to the dashboard) would not go to the dashboard for a few minutes. When I finally get to the dashboard, it says that there are no profiles found, no recent games, no videos, nothing...

I go to System Settings and view "Memory" and 1 Memory Unit appears. It is my hard drive, but it says "Unformatted." It gives me only 1 option: "Format." I open that option up and it tells me that all of my content will be deleted (about 70 GB of space- 120 GB hard drive) if I continue.

I have no clue why my hard drive is Unformatted, it was working the night before this happened and I am not willing to loose all of my profiles, saved maps/videos, other game data, etc...

Please do not tell me to Recover my Gamertag somewhere else and then delete everything because recovering the gamertag will not save my game content on all of my games...

From me it sounds like your hard drive got corrupt. Did you possibly remove it while the xbox was still on?

So idk I'd probably call M$ and see what they can do, but they will most likely tell you to go to a hard drive specialist or tell you to ship it to them or they might tell you your screwed all together idk really never heard of this problem before.

I never removed the HD from the system while on and MS and they told me to format it (which deletes everything)

This happened to me about 2 weeks ago. Nothing worked. Take it in, get a new hard drive, don't worry. They include a 3 month and an Ethernet cable with the 60 Gig ones.

I have maybe 1 time a very long time ago...

Oh well- I reformatted it... I lost all of my Halo 3 files, Fable 2 files (100% done), Fallout 3 files (level 28s), etc... And I have to redownload all of the marketplace items.

    FML...

Take out the hard drive, blow in that plug, blow into the outlet on the XBox, then put the hard drive back on, this time forcing it down AS HARD AS YOU CAN. Then, let go, and turn your XBox on. I did this when I had RRoD, and then I didn't have them. ;)

Ring up microsoft and ask for a transfer cable, let them know that your hardrive has corrupt and tell them that you need to transfer your files to your computer then format it and then transfer it back. If they dont send you one because they think your going to use it for illegal purposes then ring up like an hour later and say you need a transfer cable because you have a new hardrive and would like to transfer your content, they will then send you a cable free of charge. That or buy one of ebay for £15

He has 50 GB used, 70 free.

Dude your hard drive is corrupt, I'm sorry but data corruption is not something you can fix.

Unfortunately I have not come across this problem before, but I have a few suggestions that may or may not be helpful:

    1. Try to transfer your info to another hard drive (You said you had 70GB which is a lot, delete everything from games you don't play, demos, etc. and buy a cheaper one if you need to)
    2. Call Microsoft's support and get a new hard drive (in this case, you won't be able to recover anything).

If you do decide to go with the second option, just remember that it is a console. It doesn't affect the majority of your life, it isn't the end of the world, and you will still have all your games (discs, anyway). Good luck with your problem, though.
