Are you wondering how the lights should or could be used when forging?

Well, this is just my opinion, but i believe that the lights identifies the map in most cases. It gives a huge effect to the map, and how you feel being at that very place of it.

The lightballs are just as any immovable object from the scenery tag. It can be merged, it can float in the air. You name it. The lights come in two different colours, but can be combined to produce 3 more. Those 5 are:

Red - Good light to have at one of the bases (red side preferably). It also gives a kind of enlcosed feeling when it's put close to something. for example: if you put it in the middle of a room inside a base of something.

Blue - Also mostly used for bases. It's good to have lights over the bases, especially on symmetrical maps, because it's much easier to orientate. The blue gives, when inside a room or close to a wall, a calming feeling. It actually makes narrow paths feel wider.

The bright pink - which you get when placing both lights next to eachother or inside eachother. This is a good light to use on free-for-all maps or when you want to point out a structure which you want much traffic.

The covenant-ish purple - you'll get this color if you put a red light fairly close to an object, and a blue one a bit behind the red one. This is basically not very useful for more than pointing out single sides of an object. For example one side of a corridor or one side of a structure.

"The more blue-ish purple" - Basically the same as above, but blue closer than purple.

Now there is one important thing to know about these lights. And that thing is that they cannot be directed. They will shine through walls of any kind. So basically they will shine from where they are, and hit every surface facing it. So if you place a block in between two lights the block will be blue on one side and red on the other.

    This is a good example.

There is a red light above the roof on the left side of the pic, and a blue light on the roof on the right side of tge pic. As you see, the walls facing the right side (the blue light) turn blue even though they are closer to the red light. but they are kind of faded into eachother as both lights actually hit them. just not as much. Though if you look at the hole in the roof, they are hit by one light only, and thats why they are such bright red or blue.

This is another good example of what you can do with lights.
Without the lights, this area would be pitch black. It gives some effect doesn't it?

One thing you should be aware of though, is that when you put too many lights close to eachother (usually 4 = too many) they will all fade. I don't know why, and i would like to know how to avoid this.

    Conclusion
My point with this is pretty much to inform people of all the ways lights can be used. Why i did this was because im getting a little sick of all the lights floating in the air between 2 obelisks etc. Now you know that you can do so much more with lights. I hope to see more people using lights to personalize their maps, because even if you believe it or not, somewhere in the back of your head you will react differently, to defferent lights.

In case you wonder, the pics are from one of my maps, that i will post soon, as soon as i get a youtube movie going ;)

Thanks for reading and feel free to comment.

That's pretty handy, I didn't know you could get those two shades of purple...
As for the 4-light problem, I've had all the light effects disappear for a different reason, like whenever I play a lighted map in Custom Games or Forge with a second player.

Also if you put a light inside the cup of an upsidedown tin cup it gives the "grassy" surface a cool look to it. This coloring is hard to notice from far away but when you walk across it or get closer it does look pretty awesome. I'm actually using this an idea for top mid in my skybubble map that i'm working on.

It seems to happen when there's too much going on at the same time. For example, when you forge alone, all 4 lights will most likely shine, but as soon as someone joins, or maybe a grenade explodes etc, they will fade, but when you stop doing stuff they turn back on.

I don't see why there would be 4 lights to be placed if it doesn't work with all at the same time.
