It has been a while for me to take stand alone screen shots, but after flying around long shore for a few I came across a really nice angle to look out at the adjacent aircraft carrier. See for yourself, isn't it pretty? The first one is the original and the second one is my edited desktop background. Original (BNet Link) Edit I'm really new at the screen shot art in Halo 3 any useful feedback is awesome, thank you.
ZOMGWTFBBQ at second screenshot, its so nice, it doesnt look real... Edit: ... I just read the text... second is photoshoped... lol ok... But first one is nice for a new phottographer. good job.
It really is a beautiful shot, but IMO, it would be better if the Rule of Thirds was implemented. If you don't know what it is, it's when you lace an imaginary tic-tac-toe board over an image, so the pic is split up into 9 sections. Where the lines intersect is where points of interest, focal positions, etc. are placed in a shot. Overall, I'd say aim up (with the right stick) just a tad, to show more of the clouds, because there's a bit of action within them, and there's a tad too much dead space below the top of the carrier. Maybe a little to the left, too. This is a great shot, I hope a few people who look at this learn a thing or two.
Thanks guys =) I'll definitely keep that in mind Black Theorem and now that you say that it makes so much sense now. There's so much more going on in the upper half. The clouds remind me of the horse messenger shot in the 300 movie when they ride into Sparta if anyone knows what I'm talking about. I'll try to capture more of the interesting areas. There must be something I'm missing though - is there a trick to have a lot more contrast within the pic in halo 3 so the blacks are darker and the whites are lighter etc.?
Unfortunately, there is none... If it's an easy enough shot to stage, you can always try using explosions, FXs, weapon shells, etc. to see what you can get. That has never failed for me, especially for lighting.
