I, for whatever reason, do NOT plan out my maps, using pencil or a computer program, or whatever people that do so do (if that sentence makes any sense what so ever:squirrel_blush Why do you plan out your maps? I just like to go out there and forge and see what happens? Just trying to see if this could beneficial for me (and others) So do you pre-plan maps (vote yes) or do you not (vote no)?
Yeah, that is what I do. I think what the basic main idea of the map is, and then along the way think, "Oh this will be cool here,". All though, sometimes, I just put random boxes together and make different elevations until I find a good idea
i sometimes do and sometimes dont i do think of a reletive idea before i start most of the time but i never use all the fancy smancy computer programs and stuff
I pretty much plan it out, although that can also be during construction rather than exclusively before.
I always make sure I have a clear idea of what I'm going to do and what I'm trying to achieve... however by the time I do that I've already started placing stuff so I don't count it as pre planning. Though I bet it would be easier to make maps if I planned them before hand.
I tend to have one central idea, generally one that hasn't been done before, or will be reworked so that it is original in context. From there I build multiple "drafts" of my maps, usually with different branches of ideas (or ways to work around Bungie's prevalent glitches) then the final version is a conglomeration of all the ideas that were used throughout the "trial and error phase" (i.e. draft phase) and that is whats released
I start placing objects to get insperation. I then do a little pre plan in my head for a few minutes and then start building. As I build I'll come up with ideas and change the map, or, if i get enough ideas, start a new map that I'll work on more after finishing the first map. Basicly, I don't plan, I just build.
Yeah, usually when I'm hit with inspiration. Other times I could just randomly place objects here and there and see what comes up...
That's what I do as well, as I usually start on one version that is kind of half-assed, mostly to get spacing figured out. Once I have everything down the way I want, I start on a "true" version of the map with sweet interlocking and accurate measurement of angles and distances. I take into account jumping heights and distances, which a lot of people don't seem to do around here. Many maps are "broken" in my opinion because there are jumps that just shouldn't be there (getting out of the map by jumping is just one example). --dc
i cant pre plan tht well... ill make a basic idea nd forge off of tht, but the second i try drawing and working out the idea, it never gets done... plus, i have a bad tendency for changing something i already said. so if i plan it out, then go into forge, ill either lose the idea all together or rework it into something completely new lol... i also need to forge the map basically in one day, or i will lose my idea mostly. So when i forge, ill make sure its when i hve a day where ive got a few hours, forge the main map nd then another day or two spend time touching it up, putting in details and aesthetic touches and then test... does anyone elso do this?
i just get ideas before i sleep to help me sleep. then later i use them in maps but most of them i forget
