Map Title: UNDERCOVERmafia on New York City An interesting new strategic swat variant. Download Map Download Gametype Description: Hello Forge Hub!!! This maybe the first serious map and gametype I've created, but I've put a lot a lot of thought and effort into making it fun. The premise of the game is simple: The Mafia have been causing some trouble in The Big Apple so you and your teammates are sent to go undercover to take them out. Welcome to... UNDERCOVER Mafia!!! Everyone starts with two lives so use them wisely. At the start of the game you spawn in the equipment room with a magnum and immediately put on your mafia clothes. (good camo and black armor) You will no longer be able to see who is on your team and who is part of the mafia as the waypoints are taken off. Take whatever weapon suits you. There are no shields and hit resistance has been reduced to 10%. There are two shotguns, two SMGs, and two magnums in the equipment room, each with one clip. Shotguns are good for close range surprise attacks. SMGs are good at close to mid range when an enemy has full camo. And Magnums are good for long range when an enemy's camo is lowered. (SHOTGUN TIME!!) Once you choose your weapons within 45 seconds...(lol) head through the teleport and get ready to randomly spawn in one of the five teleports in the city. Welcome To The City!! Once in the city... there is no turning back. you cannot return to the base. Make sure you keep in communication with your teammates so that you know who's a good guy and who's part of the mafia... as it is very easy to betray. ...But just in case a betrayal does occur, you still have one more life... plus you will respawn with a 30 sec waypoint above your head to make sure you're safe from your own teammates. In the center of the city's main intersection is a custom power up. This will give whoever picks it up a 10 sec enhanced radar and a 10 sec waypoint for their teammates to see. On the map there are two snipers and two hidden maulers, each with only one clip. (if Sniper A is here... then where could Sniper B... be?) There are five rounds... you'll get 1 point for a kill. and 2 extra points for eliminating the team. more photos: aerial view "the cage" side rooftop murder Best played with 6-8 players (so automatic team chat is still intact.) Download Map Download Gametype Thanks to everyone who plays it!! I'd love to get some feedback as i'm not as professional as some of you guys on here. I'd love to get some ideas for the next version of New York. (maybe i'll actually get it to look like New York..lol)
Gametype sounds really good, very strategical. Although, as said before, the area looks incredibly sloppy.
Dang... well I guess i gotta rework the whole thing. Do you suggest i take it off this board? Or What? Honestly although it isn't aesthetically "perfect" it plays pretty much the same way that it would if i had interlocked... I'm completely out of money because i didn't know about the infinite money glitch at the time... so i'll have to start from scratch and if I redo this map i want it to be a better version gameplay wise not just aesthetically... I don't really feel like going through the whole thing over again... unless i truly feel like i'm getting closer to the "Ultimate UNDERCOVERmafia City Layout" and adding to the gameplay in someway. i'd love if some of you could play it and tell me what you think of the gameplay... and what kind of things about the map could be changed. So the next version can improve on both gameplay and aesthetics. i guess i should move this thread over to the play-test board... huh?
Aqua, it depends on your view, but if you think gameplay is more important than aethsetics(which I do), you can leave it that way, the people around here are kind of bitchy about maps looking like a seal's underbelly, but that's their problem. However, if the sloppiness does cause gameplay problems, you should fix that. It's good to learn how to interlock, because it gives you more options, but don't re-release a map just because of what other people think.
also, the 'armory' is incredibly n00bish ... is there no other way to have people get weapons? its a really good concept though
This isn't new york, this is foundry... lol, but they are right you really should have interlocked a little more, it would add to this kind of map drastically. I wouldn't go and call it noobish for having an armory, however they are out dated, people really look for good weapon placement now days, most are not fans of armory style weapon placement... Aslo I don't think that your screen shot really do the map justice.... Great ideal though, and it might play great. I haven't checked it out yet... PS. great post by the way, I see that your new here and most new folks have trouble post correctly, but yours looks great...
I think gameplay and aesthetics are pretty much equal. I just didn't have the "know how" to get interlocking from the get go. I don't think the aesthetics detract from the gameplay other then... when you're playing it... you elitists may want to vomit at my noobism. I don't think the aesthetics are that "bad"... but compared to some of the stuff and the caliber of maps posted here i can see why my map just doesn't cut it... Thanks for the compliment on my post! um yeah the screenshots don't show the whole map. i just kinda wanted to highlight the main parts and leave some of it a mystery to be explored, but i guess that's not how it works on this forum. Yeah the Armory... I think it adds to the feel of this being an undercover sting... but yeah it does deaden some interesting gameplay there could have been. There are weapons on the map but definitely not as good as the weapons in the spawn. I'll take this into consideration when making the next version. Thanks for all the input! Definitely helpful!
The idea seems pretty cool, but like people have said it would have turned out better if you interlocked. Maybe try that on your next project
