Folks, I just wanted to take a moment to discuss some observations I’ve made regarding Forgehub posting.

I’ve seen several new members ridiculed for not following established posting standards on Forgehub. On one occasion, when the OP said he thought he had followed the guidelines, he was called an idiot for not being able to read. Is this really the way you want this community to come across to potential members? The more members we have, the larger the pool of knowledge and creativity we have to draw from. Let’s try to use a little discretion in addressing perceived infractions. If the infraction is particularly volatile, then it’s probably best to notify an administrator and allow them to handle it offline. Flaming on a public forum is both childish and non-conducive to a healthy community atmosphere.

Now, there is something I’d like to point out about posting policy. There are certain criteria expected of forge posts. According to the sticky in each of the map threads, those expectations are as follows:

    • Thread name should be the same as the map.
    • Thread names should not include attention grabbers (symbols, etc).
    • The thread should include the map and/or gametype description.
    • The thread should include a link to the map and/or gametype.
    • The thread should include screenshots.
    • The thread should include any additional pertinent information.
The following are RECOMMENDED posting suggestions:

    • Have a detailed description.
    • Have embedded screenshots.
    • Have a link to your map, not your fileshare.
Now, it seems to me that the primary infractions generally fall within the recommended posting suggestions… especially regarding embedded screenshots. Please, understand that these are presented only as recommendations. Obviously each of the recommendations is beneficial to any particular thread and I won’t dispute that point. It is much more appealing to see images embedded in the thread than it is to have to click on individual links. Having said that, you cannot claim that someone did not follow Forgehub standards by not including these suggestions and you certainly shouldn’t call them idiots for having read the policy correctly.

I’m sure it is understood by the community as a whole that these are necessary guidelines for good posting. My suggestion is this: When such perceived infractions are noted… especially from newer members… simply point out that these recommendations will help that member be more successful on Forgehub and why that is so. Simple, to the point and most importantly of all… it leaves the new member with a good impression that will keep them coming back.

So, that’s all I have to say. I’m not an admin and I have no authority per se. I’m just like you ladies and gentlemen trying to make Forgehub a better place for us all.

    Happy Forging,

    Rev.

P.S., this may be more relevant in the General Discussion thread. I've been trying to figure out how to move threads, but I think I'm locked into Forge Discussion at this point. If an admin wants to move it then that is completely understandable.

You are right though, further up the rules page it "recommends" embedded pics and a good description, which could cause confusion since they are now reinforced rules rather than recommendations. I think the "Posting Suggestions" part could be deleted from the rules thread, any mods looking?

Thank you Mallet. I didn't see this as it was near the end of the thread. You're also right though in that the contradictory rule sets can and do lead to confusion... especially with the "recommendations" being presented near the start of the posting. I guess when I was reading the post, I skipped the part that looked like image embedding instructions as I already knew how to do this. It seems a correction by the mods is definitely in order.
