    Happy Birthday! :)
I know it's probably frowned upon by a lot of people, but it is possible to jail break ipod touchs' and iPhones. It allows you to get all the apps you want for FREE. However, like I said, people don't like it and there may be problems if you do decide to do it.
Alot of my friends have done it though and they've been fine!

What do you mean by risks? If its something too bad I might have to pass my dad would kill me if it broke or something.

I am not too sure of the risks, but every single person I know with an iPhone has jailbreaked it, so it must not be too risky.

But yeah, also... don't feel bad about getting free aps. Apple deserves it anyway because they won't make the iPhone an open platform so people could make their own aps.

Well, obviously apple don't want you to do it. It is really hard for them to trace whether an ipod is jail broken so it is something you should look into. But if they develop something in the future that allows them to track a jailbroken device then you might just be in trouble.
There's always a risk but hey! At the moment it's only a very small one :3

Ummm, they have made the iPhone/Ipod touch an open platform. People can make their own games send it into Apple and they will put it up on the App Store.

    Hahah, fail.

You do realize that the app store apps can't access the full power of the iphone, only what Apple wants them to access?
You do realize that Apple has a "review" process, and if they don't like the app it is rejected?
You should probably read up on what an open platform means.

As for risks, it's impossible to break the phone from jailbreaking. You can ALWAYS restore by putting the iphone into DFU and restoring from itunes.

However, since your iPhone is most likely on firmware 3.1, it isn't jailbreakable currently. Expect it to be in a week or maybe more.

I'm actually thinking about jailbreaking my iPod too, I got it in the beginning of the summer and haven't updated it since.
I do need reliable proof that it won't harm my iPod before I attempt this, though.

If you've never jailbroken before, then you don't know enough about the ipod to be able to break it (I don't know how either). If anything goes wrong (it never has for me), then you can ALWAYS DFU mode it then restore in iTunes.

However, I wouldn't suggest downloading iTunes 9 for now. I'm pretty sure it blocks a few key things, but I'm not sure.

3.1 is currently jailbreakable, but the tool for it has not been released. Go to iPod touch Fans for info.
As for 3.0, go to Dev-Team Blog and in the left-hand column click on redsn0w and your OS. It's pretty self explanatory, a guide can be found here for windows.

I love doing stuff like this, so feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
