I know halo 3 isnt compatible for the save to hardrive because it ****s up because its slower which goes against the point. My question is, is ODST the same? I hope not ;l
I can't give you a legitimate source at the moment, but I know it's in one of the Bungie updates. Your answer is that it will be o.k. to save your Halo 3: ODST disc to your hard drive but not the Halo 3 disc that comes with ODST.
Listen to the latest Bungie Podcast episode to get the scoop. Basically, its an engine limitation. They fixed it for ODST but they can't change it in the Halo 3 multiplayer disk because then you couldn't get all of the achievements and things form Halo 3. It would be a different game, albeit a very, VERY little different, but different none-the-less.
Then I hope they use better quality disks than the halo 3 ones. They seriously used some cheap ass disks, they scratch so fkin easily.
I don't think Bungie is in charge of the discs... and most discs do scratch fairly easily, thats why they tell you to keep them in their cases. What was the "problem" with Halo 3 and NXE? Was it that Bungie has already implemented a similar feature in to Halo 3? I remember hearing something on the podcast about how the Xbox has a certain amount of space for games to use as they wish and Bungie decided to use it for faster loading times. Does the NXE disc saving do something similar, so saving Halo 3 to the HDD would mean the same information is stored twice but in different locations?
That's my recolection as well but I'll add a bit, not sure if it's all accurate. It had to do with Cacheing and how the engine reads the data from the disk. Something about it being on the harddrive screws that up. I don't think Bungie ever really explained it in detail. I'd be curious to know what it is. And as far as cheap disks, I think people just need to learn how to take care of thier disks. If you store it correctly and handle it with care, it's just fine. I've never had an issue with scratching any of my disks for any game/sofware/ectera.
Well im pretty sure when someone from bungie was talking to stark he said that you should not download the one with the halo 3 maps to the hardrive but he didnt give a reason.
