You must not be familiar with Elder Srolls.
    Your Cons explained:
    1) Dude, the game is huge.
    2) Not if you bother to pay attention to the amount of detail and "history" bethesda has bothered putting into TES
    3) Unless you like medieval RPGs
    4) Try the local map for dungeons and cities, world map for travel estimation
    5) So you prefer being able to murder and steal whenever you want without consequences?
    6) Not if you know how to travel quickly, and all RPGs that big are like that
    7) Why would they care about exact timing on mouth-speech coordination more than other code glitches
    8) Try walking and running without getting on a horse/jumping high/flying when followed
    9) They don't have the servers (TES 5 will probably include some multiplayer, no MMO though)
    10) Same as above, and it would only be limited to 2v2 duels, 2 person raids, etc..

Maybe your right. I guees im just not a fan of games like this. Also when it comes to the guards i meant they should stop chasing you after a set amount of time.

Oblivion was a very good game. I would recommend getting it.

I still believe that Morrowind, if evaluated at the time it was popular compared to the time Oblivion was (for an equal playing field technologically) was a much better game. You wouldn't enjoy it now though, so just get Oblivion. It is an amazing game; I just think Bethesda did some pretty stupid things with it compared to Morrowind.

Some of the reasons I feel Morrowind is a better game:
    • Leveling. In Oblivion, everything levels with you. This has been mentioned before, in that goblins shouldn't still be nearly killing you when you're level 30.
But also, Daedric armor (as well as other higher tier armors) are incredibly rare. Why does every random bandit have them by the time you reach a level in the mid 20's?
You shouldn't be able to complete the entire game at level one either (or fight upper-level enemies and win).
The world should not level with you. You should level through the world, gaining more opportunities as you progress (you can fight harder enemy types and explore more difficult areas, as well as do more difficult quests).
    • Factions. There are very few factions in Oblivion compared to Morrowind?
Why can't you join the Imperial Legion if you're in the capital of the empire?
Where did the Houses (there are several to choose from, but once you join one, you can't join the others = replay value for multiple characters).
Necromancers (undead), Daedric Cultists (Daedra), [people that worship nature] (mythic creatures and other animals). That would have been awesome.
    • Main quest. Aside from that you can beat it at a very low level in Oblivion, it's also very short compared to the main quest in Morrowind. There's not much variety in it either. It's generally just go inside boring generic lava world to get stone from tower.
    • Fast Travel. I like fast travel, just not the way they did it in Oblivion. The fact that you can teleport to anywhere in the entire world once you add the location to your map is bad. It makes the world seem very small and gives the player very little incentive to explore it.
It would have been better if there were ships to travel between cities located on water, (since there are horses) carriages to travel between cities on land, teleportation between mages guilds, etc., and possibly another sort of teleportation system between certain types of ruins that opens up more destinations as you find them.
    • Unique Items. All of the "unique" items in Oblivion are quest related save for very very few, such as Fin Gleam. And aside from that, almost all of the "unique" items are just retextured regular items.
    • Skills. Magic is broken. You have to be a magic-based character if you are going to have any chance at all once you reach the mid-teens. And aside from that, several of the schools of magic are either completely useless or are way too powerful. They removed levitation and jump from the game for obvious reasons, which removes an entire dimension from exploration and makes Alteration a worthless school. Mysticism is not as useful as it once was either, considering Open spells are worthless once you get the skeleton key, and they removed all of the teleportation spells because of Fast Travel. As for overpowered schools, Conjuration (summon Clanfear to kill everything), as well as Illusion (unlimited invisibility).
    • World. Oblivion's world is also just boring. For one thing, they used real life architecture for most of the regular cities. Though they all look different, there is no unique styles like in Cheydinhal, Ald Ruhn, or the Telvanni cities.
They also just used real creatures and mythical beasts rather than creating their own, aside from the Daedra, that is, which are just recycled from older games. Even the dungeons are boring. Both the forts and the Ayleid ruins are made of gray stone, and the caves are just that, caves. There are no Daedric ruins, no Dwemer ruins, nothing to make the world unique and magical.
    • There are quite a few things Oblivion did much better than Morrowind, however, which are the main reasons why you should still buy Oblivion instead.
Graphics. Obviously, since Oblivion is a newer game, it has better graphics, but Morrowind's graphics are just far too outdated, and as such, are a factor in this list.
Gameplay. Morrowind had horrible gameplay. Hit and Miss is in no way fun anymore. This is one of the things I think Oblivion got right. And by gameplay, I mean combat and magic.
      Physics. They're nice to have.

@ dying animal, if they stopped chasing you then people would simply jump on a rock and sit there getting a snack...
Its more fun to run and plan your escape to the nearest thieves guild to take the price off your head

    1) Then they should sacrifice about a third of the useless places they have set up. Even with the liberal amounts of copy-paste, the dungeons serve near nothing other then getting good loot. They could have done a lot more with a lot less dungeons and they would of had more time to hammer out the kinks.
    2) So? The story is still pretty pathetic. Tales of Vesperia has barely any backstory and the main plot is very good. Again, this is them putting too much effort in places where no effort should have been placed in the first place.
    3) No. Even then the gameplay is still ****. Bethesda have proven that the can't do good combat in their latest generation games.
    4) They could have put a little more effort on the map but I agree more or less.
    5) Not the point he was making. Like I have already mentioned and X5 agreed on was that the guards are omniscient, know where you are, know what you did and will come at you for ever even if you've hiden yourself.
    6) Travelling in the game is just badly dealt with. Fast travel and ignore all the useless effort they put into caves or walk slowly to a location told to you.
    7) Agreed.
    8) No, they just bug out. It's the same thing in Fallout 3, which is annoying because it shows that they really want to improve on things. You go over a rock, the AI will be scared to fall from it and take the long way and then they'll be too far away to catch up to you.
    9 and 10) Don't have an opinion.

The mai problem with Oblivion is that the creators didn't put enough thought in important areas and put too much thought in other areas. All the little books is a prime example.

    1) The whole endless array of dungeons was something that was successful in Morrowind that they re-did. What they didn't realize was that the vast array of dungeons in Morrowind was simply fun because of the varying levels. The "Leveling AI/Wilderness" aspect of Oblivion is the worst part.
    2) Large amount of Lore was another thing that worked in Morrowind, but I guess if you truly think about the main quest alone it is horrible, I was thinking you meant the entire game as in every guild and such.
    3) It is quite hard to code an exact replica of hand to hand style fighting, I at least like the improvement from Morrowind's fight system (hit or miss)
    5) As in an adaptable intelligent AI? And they don't know exactly, they just know your bounty (there are levels of intensity, like over 5k i think is a death warrant)(immediately I know, but its hard to code otherwise)
    6) Well we both have our complaints on the travel system (I hate the map based teleporting) so I guess they did fail there
    8) I only rented it as I said earlier and played at friends houses, so I never did any escort quests since they take long anyways (unless you cast a fortify speed / levitate on them) but I guess that is a problem, in Morrowind they were just slow is all and would cut corners trapping themselves.

    1) You'll see no argument from me here. They did not think the leveling through. They really, really should have thought that one twice.

    2) The missions is Oblivion are both boring in gameplay and story. The mages guild, gameplay wise can be just brawling your way through. The only mission that wasn't like that was the one where you had to solve a puzzle in a ruin. Story wise, it was nothing more then 'Oh noez, evil dudez are attacking us!' Which was like wise for all guilds and missions.

There was a lot of room withen their lore to make it anything other then bad guys who have proven countless times that they are nothing but evil. The Necromancers are evil, Blackwater is evil and Mythic Dawn is evil. It's a little different for the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood but likewise, they are done in very boring ways. So many of the ideas were badly done. The Final Heist for the Thieves Guild is just a Dungeon crawl.

IMO, they wasted way too much time on making the world huge and putting in so much filler content that they pretty much forgot everything else. It's pretty much the only thing I hear about Oblivion. Get it, it's huge.

    3) It isn't just in Hand to Hand (Hand to Hand is actually done decently) but in everything else. Archery is terribly done as there are no headshots of the sort. Blades and Blunts are the exact same other then a few stat changes. They should have made Blade combat twitch related so that you have to attack when you see an opening and you pretty much kill them in one hit. But that's probably only me.

    4) There's no four.

    5) Once, I killed someone in Leyawin, rather stealthelly. Fast travelled to Bruma and the Guards tried to arrest me for murder. I ran away. Fought my way out of Bruma and then fond a place to wait. Once out of wait, a guard was waiting for me. That's what's wrong with the Guards.

    6) agreed.

    2) For a better result in these, train your sneak and magics really high and challenge yourself by not alarming anybody unless they are dead.
    Silence/blind/paralyze etc...
    3) By hand to hand I was referring to all medieval styles, as in not modern guns. But I agree that headshots should be easy to code.... Oh and blunts damage the opponents fatigue as well as health, at least that makes sense. Blades should simply have a lasting damage effect (initial strike + blood loss) whereas blunts should be as they are but bonus armor destruction (destroying shields etc...)
    4) I was skipping numbers due to lack of reply
    5) When you killed them did it say "Your crime has been reported" or something like that? When you kill in the city, taunt or frenzy them.

Useful things to have (quite cheap too, if you know how to get mass money):
An enchanted item with a Fortify Speechcraft 100 pts on self for 1 second on use, just cast and talk immediately and you can taunt ANYONE
Same for mercantile+personality for CHEAP training

i actually preferred oblivion to morrowind in every way but leveling. enemies should level with you, but not to the extent of oblivion. a goblin should be easy to defeat at high levels, but you dont want to be like a god-character that is invincible. and be able to level up by crouching by a sleeping character and holding the stick so you walk against a wall, or by jumpimg in the same place for hours.

    Yes
Oblivion is defiantly worth it. I've played through five+ characters, and I still go back to it every now and then. In terms of size, it's bigger than it's cousin Fallout 3, but it has less built into it, like bobbleheads, and I personally don't like exploring in Oblivion as much, and medieval weapons bore me, but with the DLC, it is still an absolutely amazing game. Faction quests are fun, such as the --------------- where you have to ----------------(Spoiler). I loved that.
Oh, and if you do get it, Frostcryre(sp?) Spire is a must, as you can enchant things free of cost and get followers there.
