The Brute Plasma Rifle is back! New ODST armor customization! A badass and extremely original way of advertising. What's not to like? I'm so pumped for this game.
It'll work in exactly the same way as the ODST HUD. People on Bnet were ranting about how that wouldn't make sense, but who cares? It's a video game mode.
I believe Johnson was one of the first Spartans, and had his HUD in his eyes, or something along those lines. I vaguely know about it, but don't really keep up with the universe outside of the games all that much.
According to the cover of the novel Contact Harvest, hes wearing bronze lensed sunglasses, that could be it.

I want to squash a brute with a drop pod haha. Oh and about the Sargent Johnson helmet stuff, he had sun glasses (as said earlier) in contact harvest but he was also a pilot / gunner (if you remember the first chapter of that book) when fighting the disidents before the covenant.
