Weekend Getaway

Infection

Map Description

  1. Taitou1
Designed with three primary holdout areas, this small map uses a gully as the entry to the canyon, as well as the Infected's initial spawn area, providing the classic "a horde of zombies is coming" feeling.

The farmhouse and the barn take up the center of the map, with pine trees and bushes scattered about. Towards the rear of the map is a stone tunnel that serves as a holdout for survivors. The farmhouse and barn are the other two.

I was trying to go for a 'zombie thriller' aesthetic theme for the map. A night sky (black chromas), heavy rain, and eerie fog.

All in all, the map is heavily inspired by the original Night of the Living Dead.

    Power weapons:
    Saw (No extra clips)
Halo: CE Magnum (No extra clips)
    Golf Club (50% energy)
1 Assault Rifle for spare ammo
1 Shotgun for a single clip of spare ammo
    2 Frag grenades

I would like to give an enormous 'thank you' to Max Extra and the gang for hosting Forged Friday and providing me with live feedback. I would never have made it this far without you all!

Thanks for taking a look, and happy Forging!

    The History of Weekend Getaway
    -------------------------------------------------------
This map has been pretty rough to make. It started out as a poor excuse for a map, with invisible barriers in abundance, and hardly any detail. The fog made it nigh unplayable.

The first playtest happened, and I took the feedback I received and worked with it to improve the map, and did more on my own. It was still pretty bleak, but at least it functioned. Plus the barriers were much clearer, and there were far fewer invisible ones.

Then came the second playtest. Yes, the map functioned, but it was easy to break out of, and details were otherwise rather sparse. I took the feedback from that and kept working.

The third playtest arrived. The feedback? It was pretty simple, but it played well for a standard matchmaking Infection map. It could use some more detail, and maybe scale the outside down a bit, and try and incorporate the tunnel a little more. It was definitely one of the more dynamic maps the others had played.

I tried to follow through with the feedback as well as I could, but was largely unable to do so with the map scaling. As for details, and complicating the map so it wasn't quite so simple, I did quite a bit.

Then came the last playtest. And the final feedback. Using the results from it, I succeeded in scaling down the map, and complicating things.

Complicating things was a bit tough because the map is focused primarily on two holdouts, with the tunnel as a third one. But by changing up the terrain a bit, making it more bumpy and adding some slight verticality, it should play a bit better outside of the farmhouse.

As for details, well. . . The farmhouse looks like a proper house inside, albeit slightly decrepit and aging, as well as with home repairs. But otherwise like a proper house.

I have also put an easter egg somewhere in the map.

This entire map has been one big, fantastic learning experience. A lot of time and effort has been put in, changing the chunky and ugly base it used to be into the eerie, nerve-wracking experience I envisioned. It's not perfect, but it's doing very well.

So, thank you. To everyone who has downloaded this map, been one of the players who suffered through its early stages, been one of the players who took part in trying it as it developed, or just taken the time to look at it. . .

    Thank you.

This would have been impossible alone.
