Vigil is a symmetrical 4v4 map designed around CTF and Slayer. It is an original layout inspired by Covenant maps in the style of Midship / Heretic / Assembly. This one is set in a snowy Covenant memorial site. The layout is based around a few circular paths with several layers of vertical interaction and a pretty quick moving flow. The geometry features a lot of curved ramps and pathways that help provide challenging encounters when strafing and moving through the level.
The weapon set features Covenant weapons, with the exception of some BRs and SMGs. A Halo 2 Beam Rifle and a Fuel Rod Cannon spawn on weapon pads. The Beam Rifle spawns in a snowy ditch on one side of the level, and the Fuel Rod Spawns in top mid. A Void’s Tear Plasma Pistol spawns on the bottom side of the atrium opposite from Fuel Rod.
While the map is a symmetrical design focused mainly around CTF, the bending paths make Slayer also good fun. A winning strategy is to focus on controlling the Red and Blue carbine towers, which give you good positions over the main courtyard and middle bridge, as well as a view into the corresponding base. Drop down to get the Halo 2 Beam Rifle and then work your way back up the ramps to gain back the height advantage.
