This first test was one of the better games of flag I have played so far, especially with default settings. Can't wait to continue playing.
Played on this last night, it was fun. The map has a huge atmosphere to it, and the piece usage is superb. The center structure and atrium were very aesthetically pleasing, gigantic, and beautiful. The battles inside said structure were confined and intense, mirroring the outside skirmishes, which created a nice balance. The warthog worked out great, and CTF was pretty fun. I'm sure slayer would play great and I would love to play that next. Good job.
I liked this last night. My one issue was that it suddenly got very difficult to return the flag once it got through the doorway areas (1/3 through the map). Perhaps a respawn change could fix that. I also had a couple bad spawns (behind enemies) around the center structure.
So, the map is gorgeous (but when aren't your maps gorgeous). I had a really fun time playing CTF. There were a few cinematic moments when defending the flag that made me so insanely happy, haha. I can't get over the amazing-ness of the upper atrium. Now, I only have two problems, which can be easily fixed: 1. M04R 5P4WNZ. I Felt like we were getting shoved into the tele-coner quite a bit and I feel that adding in a few more spawns toward the inside of the base areas (by the interior entrances) would help a lot. 2. You didn't include a photo of my amazingly epic rocket fail. :/
No, it's not just you. Haven't played on it yet but from what I can see it's just a structure in the middle of Ravine?
The map is simple in concept. Think of maps like Exile and Rats Nest. They both have only 1 large vehicle circuit, but you get so much action because of the constant encounters between vehicles and infantry. There is actually almost a whole competitive map inside that middle structure too, gives lots of cover while providing more options for players on foot. Trust me, the map really gives you a classic BTB experience. You needa play this man! AbleSirThomas of THFE played in the lobby and he said it was one of the best Ravine maps he has played yet. Ok, Fixed that. I've added more structural cover in front of the bases. I still wanna keep it fairly open, since it is meant for 8v8 vehicle gameplay. Thanks alot. As soon as someone tells me they get a bad spawn, I go into theater and see where the problem is. I'll do that right away. I think I've learned a thing or two about vehicle balance from you and a select few forgers. You always know how to balance vehicles and infantry. It's something I was always jealous of.
You know, I think those large areas in front of the bases actually help flag a lot. I'm still learning how to design for this flag but the fact that there is such a large buffer zone helps prevent so many insta-caps like most other maps have to deal with. This is just a theory, we'll see how it goes with more testing.
Great simple layout for orientation, can't really disagree with anything in particular. It was a very difficult game to judge though. Crazzzzzy lag with the connection. Let me know when you fix those frame heavy areas too, could give you more feedback. Until then, nice job on this
I play tested this the other night and enjoyed it very much also. I do think that the blue flag should have been moved from out in the open and possibly re worked a little bit of that side to be as balanced as the red side. Other than that I had a ton of fun on this map.
If the orientation is good, but the framerate is still there, maybe I should just get rid of those lights. All of the pieces are colored now anyway. I moved blue flag out quite a bit since we played. Also, If you were on blue team, you probably remember how the base was kinda cramped at the back. I phased the base into the wall coliseum a bit so there's more room for vehicles back there.
I'll be downloading this later on because it looks like a really nice BTB map. Flag must be good, judging from the comments. I like the aesthetics because the Forge pieces don't look all jumbled together - I've seen this a few times in other forged BTB maps. Unfortunately, I couldn't glean much from the pictures when I wanted to see what the centre structure looked like, but I'll have a peek in Forge later on, anyway. From the second picture I noticed you used 4x4 blocks for a part of the wall. Could these be replaced by Large Braces? I understand the walls may be thinner as a result, and that they'll interfere with the design of the doorway, but it's just a thought. Also, feel free to invite me to a playtest if you're ever running one.
I'm trying to get rid of my habit of using brace larges I'll be getting some playtests going tomorrow. I'll invite you and everyone else who wanted to play it. If you want a better grasp on the map, I updated the original post with a couple of videos. Halo 4 Map Preview "Vex" - YouTube Halo 4 Forge Maps - Vex - YouTube Www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ISakxF2hvY
