Map Description

  1. Anemeros


    I began making this map when I heard about the Throwdown 2v2 Map Contest. I really liked the idea of a small, close-quarters affair, which is what this is in spades.

    It is a UNSC Frigate using the Parallax backdrop. Unlike my first map for Halo 5, Turbulent (which was made entirely with gameplay in mind), Jade Harbor is intended to show much more of my creative side. Alien, Star Wars, Mass Effect, etc. are all inspirations for this, and it's something I've wanted to do for a long time.

    Every single weapon is close-to-mid range and there is only one Tier 3 weapon (Plasma Caster). I've playtested it enough to know that it is intense and fast-paced, especially with 4 players.

    The main area is the cargo hold. It's the center of the map as well as the largest area. That's where you'll find the above-mentioned Plasma Caster. In the cargo hold itself there are also 4 Engine rooms with 2 Suppressors, 2 Storm Rifles, 2 Plasma Grenades and 2 Splinter Grenades in total.

    On the main deck there are three rooms at each end; On one end you'll find the Cockpit, Armory and Medbay. At the other: Crew Quarters, Mess Hall and Captain's Quarters. These areas are where you'll find the AR, Magnum, SMG, Plasma Pistol and Boltshot. The catwalk in the center has the Shotgun and the corridors on each side have a Needler.

    The detail behind this map is absolutely amazing. The map really gives a 'dead space' theme when it comes to gameplay; therefore infection will play really nicely on this. 5 out of 5 stars hands down.

    I played this with 3 friends. When we weren't killing the hell out of each other we were picking our jaws up off the floor.

    Loving the attention to detail. It really looks like a functioning ship. It will be interesting to see how it plays down the line. You could have some fun Stronghold games if the Engine rooms etc are spots.

    I know scripting can be a pain but having some of the doors activated via switches would be an added touch.

    Thanks! Definitely considered adding scripts for doors but was saving it until the last minute, then I ran out of budget, of course.

    I was able to playtest it today three times with four players, and I am happy to say that it was a blast. 2v2 Slayer was a lot of fun!

    So, I understand if you don't want to, but you might well just scrap parts of the ship on the outside that are not visible from the windows to give slightly more pieces on the inside for scripting/other. This would obviously prevent flying over the map at the beginning, so it's certainly not without cost..

    The aesthetic of this map is excellent, though. Looks like it could be ripped straight from the campaign. I'd probably scrap one or two of the ARs in favour of a single BR/Carbine, and I think having only one storm rifle and one suppressor is enough for a 2v2, especially considering the number of weapons on the map. I'd need to have a run around the map, but having a couple of additional ways to get between levels would be useful.

    Thanks for the feedback! I've definitely considered all of your points...

    I don't want any BR or Carbines because they would be too strong. The last thing I want is for people to be camping the upper level with long range weapons. I want people to get close to each other as much as possible.

    In all the playtesting I've done so far, the Suppressor and Storm rifles have been the least often used weapons, which is why I'm ok with having two of each. Need incentive for people to go down into the engine rooms.

    Adding additional routes to the bottom might be a little redundant since there is such a large open space above it that anyone can jump into at any time.

    Great map! So much detail! You should make a spooky version for infection gameplay with flickering lights and such! 10/10

    Saw this entry, thought maybe you could replace some of the crates in the cargo hold with the new three stacked cylinder thingy. Save a little more budget and add slightly more variety :D

    Hot damn this is a beautiful map. I love the detail, and I love that you made it within an environment.

    Do you have a sketch of the layout at all? Like just a quick thing to see a general blueprint?
