Map Description

Only the penitent man shall pass...

(1-16 players) Gametype: Use “Grail” in my bookmarks.

The Crusade is a mashup of ALL major Indiana Jones Movie Traps and Relics. There are a total of 12 “official” traps (lots of other ways to die) in your quest to obtain (in order):

    - The Golden Idol from a booby-trapped ruin in Peru
    - The Sankara Stones from the Temple of Doom
    - The Holy Grail within Petra after passing the three trials
    - The Ark of the Covenant
    - The Crystal Skull

As expected, you will need to leap and whip your way past smashing walls, collapsing ceilings, shooting darts, death-defying crevasses, fire traps, and a rolling boulder on your way towards these objectives. Eventually you’ll find yourself face-to-face with one of the wonders of the ancient world: Petra, where you must pass the Three Trials to immortality. For the most part, the traps follow the movies fairly well, though of course I added my own touches to make certain traps more interesting or function better as it IS a halo forged map. For those of you who need hints for the trials:

    - First trial is the Breath of God, "Only the penitent man will pass."
    - Second trial is the Word of God, "Only in the footsteps of God will he proceed."
    - Third trial is the Path of God, "Only in the leap from the lion's head will he prove his worth."

Finally you will reach the Grail Room. I would fail at my duty as map creator if I didn’t say this:

“You must choose. But choose wisely, for as the true Grail will bring you life, a false one will take it from you.” –The Grail Knight

If you choose wisely, you will continue on towards the Ark of the Covenant and finally unlock the secret of the crystal skull and become immortal. Yes, I wish I could’ve added so many more traps as shown in the movies, but alas, I ran out of item budget, sigh…

As always, I look forward to any and all suggestions for improvement. Please click the download button and add my gamertag: CaptainDireWolf to download the map form my bookmarks. Enjoy!

    10/5,
This really did live up to the Indiana Jones story. Its a fantastic map outlay each puzzle follows the original story and the boulder chase was fantastic as well as the last two rooms! great job!

    8/5,
I liked this map quite a bit. The theme was cool and I enjoyed the aesthetics. I really liked the beginning part of the map with the rope jump, darts, rock chase, and collapsing roof.

I didn't completely understand the spelling puzzle, maybe because I'm not too familiar with Indiana Jones. I did like how it was executed though. The last room I also didn't really get, seemed just kind of like trial and error.

Overall, cool map. Fun obstacles with a neat theme!
  3. Played it with my friend and it was extremely fun and well made!
  4. This map has everything you could want in an obstacle course/escape map. The theme, aesthetics, mechanics, traps, references, and accessibility are all great. And most of all, the map is FUN! If you have ever played and enjoyed an escape map or obstacle course before, or are interested in trying one out, then you have no excuse for not bookmarking and playing this map.

This is awesome, can't wait to play it! It's not the first mashup, though, you might want to correct that. ;)

I actually made a little mashup in Halo 4, that's the only one I know of. It didn't include that much stuff, though. :)
Well, I played it and I gotta say I probably got overhyped because of the thumbnail picture. I can write a full review if you want to.

Nicely done, this map was a lot of fun.

I did notice some things that could improve the map:

You can just skip the whale jumps by ground-pounding down past the water. I'd put in some invisible barriers to prevent this.

For the Grail Room, I'd play around with the objects to make the correct one more noticeable. How it is now, there's no way to make an "educated guess" it's just random trial and error and it becomes tedious unless you are lucky.

This one is kind of a vague overall feeling I had about the map but i'll try to explain it. Many parts of the map look great, but there are some parts that could be improved. Going back and forth from relatively bland rooms to highly detailed rooms creates an odd effect that make the less developed rooms seem incomplete.

I fully appreciate the struggles involving the object budget haha (I always max it out, and often max out all msg. and pwr. channels as well the scripts budget) but I think it would be worth the effort to go back over the map and look for objects to take out so you can add objects in other areas. The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is the "darts" trap, since you just jump over all of them (at least that's how i got past it) having so many of them is unnecessary. Taking a few out wouldn't hurt the look and feel of the trap and would allow you to add in some more scenery or cover up some holes.

Overall the map is good, you can easily identify the iconic traps from the movies and it is fun to play. But you put in a lot of time and effort already so why not strive for perfection haha.

Love the feedback Lost Pinecone, thanks! Good point about stopping people from skipping the whales. Lol didn't realize that point during my original testing.
I agree about the grail room and I'll work to fix it. It's tough because as the map creator, I'm biased as I know how to complete everything ahead of time, so its very helpful to hear feedback from the community.
I'll also try to redevelop some of the blander rooms. I think you're right. The darts trap is too chaotic as some of the welded objects come loose and I can get rid of some of them. Just as a note, which rooms in particular felt bland. I'd like to know your opinion so I can focus on spicing them up. Thanks again!

Lost Pinecone said almost everything I wanted to say, so I'll just add some other points.
First off, the "Word of God". Why didn't you place down the actual name? The "true" letters were in random order and didn't say Jachwe or Iachwe. I needed ten minutes to figure out the random path. Enough said, I guess.
The whole map could be way smaller and therefore more detailed. You hurt the map's immersion and experience with some of the overscaled parts. If they looked good, it wouldn't be such a problem, but overally they don't. So my suggestion would be to scale the whole map down by a lot. That's how you can make the overall experience much more enjoyable, I think. Take the room with the ceiling coming down for example and make it smaller, etc..
If you do this, you would also have to change the gametype, of course, and disbable ground pound and thruster, which wouldn't hurt the gameplay actually. I think, the map would benefit from that change, too, since it would be more realistic. Cheers.

    Hi Buddy Jumps,
Thanks for all the feedback! To address some of your concerns, the actual name is Iehovah (pronounced Jehovah) which in the Indiana Jones movie is part of the joke where he accidentally steps on the wrong tile. You'll see that I included the letters for both of these possibilities, however (spoiler alert), I chose not to make them the correct words as this is halo and I assumed many people wouldn't have any idea as to what Iehovah was and would get frustrated. Thus, I made the true word simpler (not actually random) and more true to halo lore: MasterChiefJohn. It wasn't supposed to be easy, but I understand some of the letters may not be easy to read (I plan on updating them in the next update).
I revamped the room with the ceiling coming down so its smaller, more challenging, and less open looking.
I also revamped the darts to look more like darts so hopefully that looks better.
I chose to include ground pound and thruster mainly so people could make certain jumps and be able to make the fall onto the whales near the bridge. Otherwise it's painfully hard to make it onto the whale alive.
Let me know any additional thoughts as I truly appreciate feedback on making the map better :)
