Map Description

With the new block coloring options in Halo 5's Forge (not to mention cylindrical blocks), I really wanted to do something Covenant-themed. Spire stuck out as one of my favorite maps in Halo: Reach, and was a great opportunity to practice working with the Covenant aesthetic. This was also my first attempt at Forging terrain, which was a fun learning experience.

But concerning the actual map, you may notice that half of it is missing. I decided to leave out terrain not surrounding the tower, as it was rarely used outside of Invasion (which isn't included in Halo 5). The action is instead focused on the area immediately surrounding the Spire. This also had the added bonus of saving big time on parts, which I ended up being very tight on. I tried to keep other changes minimal, though I did remove/rework most of the structures other than the Spire. The BFG has been removed completely, and the catwalk was replaced with a Covenant sniper tower. The Spire itself is smaller and more cramped than it should be due to a conversion error on my part, but only by a small degree.

Each team is given a Ghost, Warthog, and Phaeton off spawn, with the Phaeton replacing the Falcon from the original. Plasma Casters and Carbines are available nearby, in the same positions as before. Beam Rifles can be found in the Covenant Sniper tower, as well as on the ridge on the other side of the map. Two Plasma Pistols and two Needlers can be found within the bottom section of the Spire, as well as an Incineration Cannon in the tunnel underneath. I tried to keep the weapons and vehicles as similar to the original as possible, though I replaced any UNSC weapons with their Covenant/Forerunner counterparts for the sake of the theme. (would have done the same with the 'Hog were that an option)

Summit takes place on the Forerunner world of Kamchatka, visited in the first mission of the campaign. The battle for the planet is raging, and Jul is throwing everything he has left into it. To counter Forerunner anti-air defenses tearing up his fleet, he has deployed numerous teleportation spires in order to sneak forces in without risking his fleet. Though many of these towers now lack their shielding modules, which were repurposed for use elsewhere, they still provided a great advantage for Jul's forces. However, after Jul's death, many of theses Spires were left abandoned as the remainder of the fleet hastily regrouped for an attack on Sanghelios.

The map should be all ready for Slayer, with CTF and Stronghold support coming very shortly. I will be testing the map over the course of the next few weeks, making changes as I go, but its current form should be completely playable!

It's awesome that you were able to replicate the Spire with as much detail as you did. Especally appreciate that the lifts work as well as they do.

I personally would have rather seen different terrain centered around the Spire built with Halo 5 in mind though. I feel that only having half the map without all the rocks will make it play weird, although without Jetpack you wouldn't be able to get on most of them anyway.

Also doesn't really feel good to fly a Phaeton because you die as soon as you hit the ceiling.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I'll definitely consider changing up the terrain, I'm going to see how it plays as-is and probably make adjustments from there. And I'll look into the ceiling issue, may have put the hard kill volume lower than I meant to.

This was one of my most hated maps from Reach outside of Invasion, that being said, this is one of the most fun Slayer maps I've played on this game so far. It's almost as if Bungie made this map for Halo 5s new abilities.

nice job on making everything look covenant. I'd love to see more covenant themed maps from you! are you only doing remakes for now or are you trying out some of your own layouts?

Thank you! Most of my maps going forward will likely be original.

    The spire itself looks amazing...

but I'll miss the other half of the map XD. Probably plays great anyways. I look forward to playing a few matches on it!

The original Spire map was just way to freakin huge for my group so I hacked it down to a slayer map focusing on the spire, which is why I like the looks of what you have built here.

A couple things off the top of my head, you may want to consider building simple lift looking pads at the base of your interior lifts and then use an invisible lifts instead. I would also use the invisible light in the lift with it's effect to create the long light shaft, as others have done in their maps, to make it feel more like the original.

The problem with building a really good re-creation is that it cries out to be even better. You've done a good job crafted the spire structure and I hope that you keep tweaking it until it's the ultimate Spire re-creation. If that Group Object saving tool ever comes, out I would love to see your spire in there and up for grabs.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I tried using invisible lifts, but unfortunately they don't reach high enough to work effective. Though now that I think about it, I might try turning them sideways like I did the current gravity cannons and see if they can reach high enough that way. As for the lights, unfortunately I think I would need multiple lights to accomplish that, and I'm at the very limit of part count. I'll look into it some more though.

I'm definitely going to keep improving this as time goes on! Hopefully I can reduce the part count if Covenant blocks are ever added.
