"The constellations are aligned... Our doom desire."
INTRODUCTION
A new year starts and what a better way that with a new original mini-game! This time I bring to you Meteor Mash on Spacial Rend.
Meteor Mash is an infection based mini-game that I've been working for several months. I would wanted to release it before, but the amount of bugs and glitches Forge had in the past didn't helped.
GAMEPLAY
The goal of the game is simple: Survive the meteor shower and kill as many meteors you can. Or in its case, annihilate the survivors.
Meteors (Infected):
You will be spawning on top of the map and launched directly to the survivors. Ground Pounding is the key, which is 5 times faster than usual. Aim for their heads and try not to miss. If you do, you will be teletransported back to the top ready to pound again. Create havoc!
Survivors:
You get a Railgun to defend yourselves from the meteors, but use your clip wisely because the reload is slow. Keep an eye on those meteors to anticipate their falling. Last Man Standing gets a shield, thruster and faster reload.
DESCRIPTION
The map is very simple in it's own, but the system to give an infinite loop tp the infected was the challenge. When ground pounding to the bottom, the "hit" animation lasts for 0.5 seconds, it means that while being telported the instant you hit the ground you won't be able to ground pound in the next fall because the game didn't read you hit the floor.
To save this, I placed different blockers to make a sandwich. The first layer is the floor for the survivors, which prevents them for passing through, simple containment. Next we have a Projectile Blocker which acts as a Ground Pound stopper, granting those 0.5 seconds of animation to be done when hitting the last blocker which contains the teleporter. It has to be said, this method it's not flawless, sometimes you will get on top without the possibility to ground pound, but I managed to get a 5% of failure.
The walls of the map are scripted to enclose together at the half of the round, making harder the job for the survivors to fight for their lives. As a hint: Don't camp on the edges, it would be easier for the meteors to hit you!
