Overview
Soda has been sitting on my xbone since around April. It's really outdated and flat now but yeah, I was thirsty.
Soda is an asymmetrical 2v2 built around 3 main atriums. It is a MAJOR redesign of a H2A map of mine called Cache. Cache had several fundamental flaws in its design. The lack of segmentation between the atriums meant there was a lack of meaningfulness in encounters. Players found themselves frustrated as they couldn't move anywhere without feeling like they were going to get shot FROM ANYWHERE. This was also a big problem for spawning as well.
Soda addresses this by segmenting the atriums while retaining the core layout. In fact, these changes made soda play the way I wanted it to play initially anyway
More meta.
2v2's are the optimal experience here. Gameplay will flow around the atriums as teams find their optimal setups, find ways to break up other teams, and go looking for power weapons. Slayer, Ball, Strongholds, and FFA are all available here.
Strongholds is particularly intriguing . I say this because it toys with the formula you see in the MM maps. Instead of having one objective which has a lookout which can see two objectives at once, two objectives have multiple positions where they can see two objectives at once. Oh and the third objective has different positions that allow it to see all three. Bizarre right. Keep in mind this was a conscious decision of mine to try and tighten up the objective play found in strongholds, and tighten up how it plays in a 2v2 scenario.
Red atrium holds the Hydra. Green, the Plasma Caster. Bottom Blue holds the Sniper, while a plasma pistol can be found in Street.
