Shellshock was designed by Kell Of Scots and myself for the Ghost in the Shell contest. The layout focuses around a central area which is framed by a circular overpass based on the description provided for the scene. To help break up the circle and provide a more interesting layout, the overpass is largely in ruin so that it splits up what would have been a cluttered central space into a more flexible arena including ramps of debris and jumps where there are gaps in the circle. This allows for freer traversal through the core of the map.
Placed around the overpass are 3 distinct buildings (2 can be entered) and a construction site. These act as bases and spawn areas of sorts however no area is too defensible. As this is designed for Slayer, we wanted a layout that would keep players on their toes as they cycle between weapon control and position control.
There are two key flanking routes on the map with the first being a trench that elbows from one teams spawn building to the other. This trench holds a neutral rocket launcher. Players should be aware of the canisters that dangle above rockets from a crane. If the switch on the side of the crane hook is shot it will drop a nice surprise on anyone below. The other way to sneak through the map would be to travel through the drainage tunnel and pipe where the camo is located. This area acts as a great shortcut from one end to another.
The shotgun can be found by what is left of the tree that sits in the central plaza. A speed boost spawns in front of the spider tank, you wont miss it.
The construction building offers fast access to the shotgun and camo tunnel as well as housing a machine gun turret, useful for locking down the middle. The opposite building has a position with more control over sniper spawn and another platform that overlooks rockets but is very exposed to the turret.
Overall we didn't want a map with too obvious a strategy but rather a free sandbox based environment that lets people make meaningful choices about how they want to slay the enemy team depending on their own play style. We hope you enjoy the map! Thanks for reading.
