War is the father of us all, King of all. Some it makes gods, some it makes men, some it makes slaves, some free. – Heraclitus of Ephesus
War on this map wont make you a king nore a slave but it will bring you great satisfaction as you attempt to take from the opposing team. Ideally played under the capture the flag game variant this map is a straight cut challenge to travel the flag from one end to the other. The routes may be minimal but the challenge is great as the focus here is strong team work and proper weapon control. It’s easy to run out into the open on any CTF map with hopes of capturing the objective to only be met with a hail of bullets. Roman will do just that if you foolishly go for gold without teamwork and planning. At the end of each map holds a primary base in which the teams flag lays central in the lower part of the structure. From here each base holds a pair of Halo 2 battle rifles ready to make mincemeat of those would be flag runners. The best options for teams is to make good with the weapons in and around the bases and make a push toward key points.
Rockets and a sniper rifle divide the map across the centre giving players key areas to attempt to gain control of. These are split by a huge ornate structure housing a useful overshield ready to protect those brave enough to venture across the open. The sniper spawn location offers a superb blend of gentle high ground and enough cover to quickly tuck behind without over powering or hindering the sniper location. The rocket spawn is heavily protected by cover in a cave across from the sniper spawn. While the rockets are very well covered. A few grenades and timely attacks from any of the three entrances can prove a challenge to those inside. The Spartan controlling the rockets could soon be met with a cluster of grenades if the area is not controlled properly by team work.
This map is cleanly created with clear sight lines and tasteful aesthetics. With CTF gameplay predominately in mind Scotty Dogg has done great work with an excellent balance between theme and gameplay.
