8v8 Capture the Flag

Map Description

  1. Psinobious
    Introduction

    This is a vehicle based big team battle map that aims to mesh both the infantry and vehicle aspects of big team battle into one. Heavy vehicles on this map include 2 mantis', and 2 wraiths, with woodland warthogs, gungooses and ghosts to accompany them. A major problem that I have come across in matchmaking is the warthog sliding into obsolescence rarely ever being used. This is due to the overuse of hard cover on maps that would allow infantry to move to areas were vehicles cannot traverse or aim into. The only hard cover that would be currently on the map would be at the bases.

    To help infantry survive against enemy vehicles, I decided to take inspiration from a map I previously made and introduce the wilderness to this map. Infantry will be able to use soft cover such as the hills, trees, and bushes to their advantage since it provides camouflage. This does not provide total safety from vehicles, but it does allow you to have a fighting chance against them. If all else fails a infantry has access to a plasma pistol and grenade launcher to punish vehicles that stray from the pack. While the berserker claw and railgun allow the infantry to fight vehicles head on.



    Gameplay:

    I wanted the to try and set the pace of the game to something you would find from a map from Halo 3. To try to achieve this I have set the power positions that face each other in the middle of the map far enough away from one another so that the red bloom would not register. On top of the that the trees and bushes would also provide cover to players making it harder to land a shot. I took some inspiration from the map standoff from halo 3 and placed little cover in the middle of the map. Players who would try to advance on foot to the other side would be vulnerable to those who are entrenched, restricting movement like in standoff.

    Standoff was the closest thing halo ever came to trench warfare game play. There may not have been any trenches on standoff, but the power positions that were on each teams side would restrict their movements to their side of the map. In an attempt to try and replicate some of standoffs game play aspects. An ad victorian would be placed in the middle of this divide to incentives players to fight over this weapon contesting them from their power positions. Due to the power of each teams positions, advancing on the rocket will not be an easy task to accomplish.

    The base design:
    When players spawn in their perspective bases, I want them to feel like this base is their stronghold that they hail from. The base should give players the feeling that they are proud to sport their colors in the face of the enemy. I wanted it to be different from the generic UNSC metal box you would find on maps like fracture, basin, deadlock, recurve, etc.

    When designing the base, I wanted to give the attackers the feeling you are laying siege to the enemy teams base. The defenders should feel like this is their stronghold they are defending. The base itself should feel like it is part of the fight and not merely an object the defenders are standing on to get a better angle on the attackers.
