It's been a long time since I made this map, and I figured it was in need of a refresh since it remains one of my most popular maps. I've done a number of things aesthetically, all of which are geared towards improving the map's performance. In addition, I've altered the weapon set to mix things up.
Here are the biggest gameplay changes:
- OS has been moved from it's position at the top to mid (where hydra was previously)
- The Hydra has been removed and replaced with a Hammer. The hammer is now the old OS location.
- Mid is a little bit larger, and has more comfortable pathways into it from red / blue spawn. The sightline blocker down the middle pathway has also been simplified / cleaned up.
Not that anyone cares, but here's what's new under the hood:
- I removed a number of trapezoids from the very upper tier of the map in order to reduce piece count / frame rate / light map. I also thinned out some of the repeating trapezoidal patterns at eye level. Basically did a lot of piece optimization everywhere. Light map is now below 100% and I have zero dead blocks, and no frame drops.
- I removed the torch prefabs which were noob-ing up the level like crazy. I deleted all the lights on the map and redid them in a more simple way. Overall I took the map back to a much cleaner version of its original look (as it looks in the photos and videos on this page) and removed some of the things I added in ver 2 that pushed it too far.
My xbox screenshots are now not working at all, so I don't have any images at this time. I'll attach some to the post when they're working again.
