Weapons, vehicles, and other advantages are everywhere all over this map. Don't get fixated on one area where people are holding out and picking up things. Explore enough and you'll find that there are treasured advantages everywhere. Both on the island and in the four corners of the map off shore.

Also note that the mongooses work as water Vehicles only. The water is deadly for humans except for 10 feet near any land mass or objects.

So make sure that your close to the island before getting on or off it. Same thing goes for boarding boats or off shore rock.
