Frost-Bound

5v5 Slayer

Map Description

  1. Brandon Winick
Frost bound was built with gameplay as the priority. The map is purposely larger, which allows teams more time to set up map control and react to in-game occurrences. This design is also a breath of fresh air, as most Arena Halo 5 maps are small. The small maps create quick, often-times chaotic gameplay and Frost-Bound looks to break the mold. The core design creates interesting interplay between lateral and equatorial movement. Domination of the center of the map is key, and engaging from top-mid to limit enemy movement laterally into the map is crucial. However, combat between the two main structures over top-mid equatorially is just as important, and can determine the victor. The map also has superb verticality. The ice caves offer a dive in altitude and a twist in terrain association - as when entering the blue ice cave, you will find that you swing under the map to the red side before looking back towards bottom mid, and the blue side. Frost-Bound also has a few key skill jumps that grant immense advantages, for those that know them.

The second focus is the theme of the map. The theme behind Frost-Bound is something any Halo player would recognize. It is a Forerunner structure that was built within an ice field and of course abandoned. The nighttime setting and light snowfall combined with the impressive structures imbedded within the ice set the tone of the battle. Players will feel enthralled within the universe and this helps create that champaign feel. The name itself should also trigger a certain sense of nostalgia, for Halo 3 fans.

Frost-Bound has a variety of weapons that satisfy multiple areas of the shooting palette. The needler, scattershot, SPNKR rocket launcher, plasma pistol and scattershot each offer a unique experience and have their place within the map. The sniper rifle is the main power weapon on the map and could be used to brutal effect. The map also contains all four rifles - BR, DMR, Light rifle and Carbine. The philosophy behind the abundance of weapons harkens back to old school design. There are more weapons, but they are on greater cool downs.

Finally, Frost-Bound is optimal with 5 player teams, but can handle 6v6. It also supports 8-man FFA. CTF is another main aspect of Frost-Bound. There are man cannons that shoot the player into their respective bases and allow for quick infiltration into the base when map control is attained. But, getting out of the base won't be so easy. Of course, testing is required to see if there are imbalances within the map. The scatter shots might have too much ammo or the rocket launchers spawn too quickly. The man cannons could be too powerful in CTF. The only way to know is to play, so I hope you all give the map a download and let me know what you think : )

I like it, I see all the work invested- Perfect darkness for Infection IMA
Otherwise a little to dark for my taste for slayer or ffa- Maybe with players running around i wouldnt walk into so many black walls- the light bridge is a cool touch but the blue sides of some dark pieces made me think it was a bridge- I would need to play with some peeps to get a true feel of the map and flow - perhaps wiuth people shotting and moving the areas I find too dark playable.

on the flip side- People may find my 1st uploaded map to EFFN bright lol

to each there own- the cave is my favorite part. Check out my map- and DL now that we are friends! Th3eAngry Inch
