Ector is my first map in Halo 5. It is asymmetric with somewhat of a symmetric layout with a Forerunner theme which is shown throughout the map. The bases were built from a design that originated in Halo3 on a map called “Sanction”, which I then rebuilt in Reach on a larger scale, then again in Halo 4. Layouts in all of these maps were different but I used the similar bases in each version to capitalize on the design.
This is the 1st time these bases have been used in a 2v2 design that I started before the contest. I kinda stopped working on it until I heard about the contest & that geared me toward finishing it. With it being my 1st map with the new overwhelming forge I didn’t get too crazy and kept a straight forward layout that stayed fairly true to my original sketch. Keep in mind the bases are the only part that have been re-used.
So the bases are sort of symmetric yet different and the natural geometry is of course asymmetric. The power weapon layout consists of a Rocket Launcher bottom mid (static drop spawned) every 2 minutes with 4 shots total. There is a Speed Boost outside of red sneak/cave that is on static spawn every 90 sec and a Light rifle spawns in Blue sneak/cave. You get 2 plasma nades inside the main center structure and 2 splinter nades between Blue base & Speed Boost spawn. After that there is a BR in each base and Blue bridge has a Storm Rifle with an open area in front of it while Red Base has a Needler with a more closed natural geometry area in front of it.
After testing several different weapon sets listening to bad feedback & good feedback (someone once told me I needed more power weapons when I had too many to begin with) I toned it down a bit. Sniper was way OP with the open areas and at 1st I had BRs, a DMR, AND a Light Rifle with Plasma Caster, Rockets, Sniper, and OS lol. I wasn’t up to snuff with the sandbox yet though & that’s what testing does for you. With the openness of the map the Rockets aren’t out of control and with just the 2 BRs & the Light Rifle on the map it really allows the Pistol gameplay to shine through.
The map supports up to 8 players and can actually handle 4v4 decent enough but really only setup or 2v2 Slayer. I have flags & Strongholds setup on the map but never have tested them nor have I setup spawns for them so they may work & they may not. I didn’t intend to so I only tested Slayer but like I said the items are there so if I get any interest to set up those game types I will in the future.
Anyhow, I don’t have fancy photo-shop pictures with crazy labels & titles showing what goes where, I just have a good ol’ fashioned map post.
