Dormant

4v4 Slayer

Map Description

  1. AvalonSky
Inspired by the map Desolation from Halo 2, Dormant is a 4v4 medium sized map with long line of sight combat on the upper level, along with close quarters combat on the lower level. The main power weapon of this map is the Energy Sword at Top Mid, while also having a Overshield at Bottom Mid, and a Hydra Launcher at South Outlook.
To keep control of the map is to keep control of Top Mid. The Energy Sword is a very powerful weapon on this map, so make sure your team has control over the Energy Sword.
On the Strongholds variant, the Energy Sword has been replaced with a Railgun at Bottom Mid, and the Hydra Launcher has been replaced by a Speed Boost at South Outlook.
There's a lot of ways to get up on the upper level of Dormant, either through the outer four areas, the lifts, or by clambering on the various rocks and structures on the lower level. Unfortunately there's no ramps and tunnels connecting to one outer area to the other because I ran out of materials. If 343 decided to up the object count and lightmap, then expect a updated version of Dormant. I've made a lot of sacrifices in order to make the map playable, functional, and of course fun.

    Weapons:
    2 Battle Rifles
    2 SMGs
2 DMRs (1 DMR on Breakout)
    1 Storm Rifle (Breakout)
    2 Suppressors
    2 Boltshots
    1 Light Rifle
    2 Frag Grenades
    4 Plasma Grenades
    2 Splinter Grenades

    Power Weapons:
    1 Energy Sword
    1 Hydra Launcher
    1 Railgun (Strongholds)
    1 Scattershot (Breakout)
    1 Overshield
    1 Speed Boost (Strongholds)

Note: I only have Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green teams available on this map. Sadly I couldn't add Purple, Magenta, Orange, and Cyan because I was running out of objects I can place. So sorry if that's a disappointment.

If you want to give any criticism, then send me a message on Xbox Live and hopefully I'll continue to improve the map.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the map, and thank you for your support.

I haven't played it yet, but it looks pretty solid based upon my walkthrough.
The only things that really bothered me were:
    - The triangular pieces (bottom left corner of your 3rd picture) almost completely block the walkway into top mid. I'd recommend scaling that down a bit to allow at least 8 feet to walk around it on each side.
    - The numerous height variations in top mid. For my taste it's a bit too much variation for such a small space, and I don't think it's really necessary. I do like the dropdowns there.

Aside from that, I like your re-design of the base areas. The scaling/spacing feels pretty good. The natural pieces in the courtyards feel...uhhh...natural, and they should serve their purpose of breaking up lines of sight across the bottom quite well. The atmosphere is nice.

I think you could do something with color variation. As is, there's not much (any), and I think you could make the map look even better by adding some.

I thank you for your criticism. I slightly adjust the triangular pieces you were talking about, and now they're slightly easier to walk around now. I can't say much about your second critique, but I did add a bit color variation to all sides, while also adding a bit of detail to the four massive pillars surrounding top mid.

Anyways, I just updated the map, and I thank you for your support.
