The crusade begins. Will you rise to seize the day. For only the victorious stand atop this castle.

    map info.

    aesthetics/scenery.
The aesthetics for the map are of a large medieval castle. The map is build with stone base and wooden trim keeping it simple and clean. Using this simple aesthetics was very cost effective which allowed me to focus more on set pieces and scenery where the bulk of the details are placed. Some set pieces include a large trebuchet and ballista siege weapons mounted in lower mid and above upper mid.

The map has three points where you can look out from located in front of trebuchet and behind the gated doorways to view the scenery as well as other parts of the castle. Below the trebuchet wall their is a couple buildings and set piece for you to view (this area is out side the play space so you will die in game if you fall down).

When making Crusade i really wanted to build up the feel that you really where in a castle somewhere so i tried my best to build up the scenery and tried to find anything that would break the immersion that i wanted to provide.

    layout.

Now a little on the layout Crusade is a reconstruction of a previous map i made called fort rush (fort rush had a good center but the rest of the map feel short) so i made that my starting point and rebuilt the layout from there. Although the layout is now drastically different to its counterpart remaking it was a good call. I'm really happy that it play as well as it does and i'm very satisfied with the map as a whole.

    weapons layout.
    (Plasma caster) x1 mid
    (Fury) x1 mid
    (Projection Smg) x1 mid
    (Speed boost) x1 mid
    (Gunfighter magnum) x2 base
    (Battle rifle) x2 base
    (Frag grenade) x2 base
    (Plasma grenade) x2 base

big thanks to everyone who help me test the map and provided great feedback i really appreciate it.

The lighting was done for me by Kawecki 22 big thanks to him!

    10/5,
Crusade is a solid Extermination map with a well executed layout and a clean art pass. With Extermination, it's hard to ride the line between a map that plays fast and has a tendency for team wipes right off the bat vs gameplay that is focused on hunting down the last man. Both have a place in the game, but neither should dominate the gameplay experience. Crusade finds a good balance between these too aspects and doesn't play too fast or too slow. It's a very consistent experience and that can be harder to achieve in Extermination than you think. I've used my newly granted power as a forge critic to nominate this map for community favorites and I highly recommend other forgers give it a few games to experience the map for themselves.
  2. An awesome looking and even better playing exterm map. Probably one of the best I've played. Puts some of my medieval aesthetics to shame to. Love the thruster jumps as cougar will know and the game we played on it the other day was just incredible. Couldn't have been closer...

    10/5,
Cougar has done a wonderful job of creating a great playing layout with a very nice looking Castle theme. I really enjoyed playing it and hope to see more from him.

Everyone has basically taken the words right out of my mouth in the reviews. I concur. Crusade has a crisp, refreshing look and feel along with accurate attention to detail of something representing this time period. The center trebuchet makes for the ultimate sight blocker and obstacle to maneuver around, as well as the rest of the map having a nice connected, free flowing style both on top and bottom. Nice work.
