Map Description

  1. BLOODxcrazer
    Welcome back, Commander! Your team needs you. Be their eyes, open and close doors, activate traps, and lead them to victory.

    Commander is a two map series with 6 gametype variants. The concept is the same throughout each gamemode: one player (the first guy to press a switch at the start) becomes the commander for his team. The commander can then use the switches to interact with the map, and ultimately change the flow of the battle.

    On Commander: Decay, the commander can:
    - Close 1/3 doors at a time
    - Deploy shield doors
    - Lower enemy shield doors
    - Change the team's spawn to left/right
    - Drop a mantis
    - Blind the enemy commander (static sound effects included)
    - Lower all enemy doors for 5 seconds (alarm sound included)

    Players will find 2 custom req weapons (using the req weapon glitch). Players should make use of the small vent to bypass the middle door.

    I am always looking for feedback and thoughts on new maps for this series. Attempt to get the entire lobby into game chat for the best competitive experience.

    Below are the links to the map and gamemodes. Each gamemode has "Commander:" before the name for those of you who prefer to search through my files. If you are wondering why these gamemodes are even here it is mostly due to the game times. For instance, the 2 breakout variants rely on scripted events to allow players to eliminate the commanders. The description of each gametype is pretty self explanatory, but I do recommend to you other forgers out there to check out Tactical CTF to see a pretty badass Arena Breakout gametype glitch involving a scopeless DMR start.     Nice. I think you build that thinking about Battlefield Commander mode. It's really cool.

    Is there a timer before the commander can use their abilities again ? I think abilities must have a timer. Maybe you could also create an interactive button in the map to force players to control the map. Activate this panel (2 different panels, a red and a blue) will make appear a new panel in the commander room. This panel could be the one that, instead make the commander completely blind, prevent him to use any panel for 10 or 15 seconds.

    I think it could be a good way to force the players on the map to play for victory but also to play with the commander and help him to help you. It's a 50/50 job which allows 3 things :
    - Force soldiers to not only count on the commander
    - Force soldiers to control different positions in the map (as if they were on a default map) using interactivity
    - Create a better link between the soldiers and the commander

    Of course, you'll need to script this to make that panel in the commander room, available with a cooldown. For example :

    Blue panel on the map : Interact blue panel => Send Alpha

    Master Chief toy : Alpha reception => Despawn
    At despawn => Send Bravo
    Respawn activate : 1.30 minutes (so each 90 seconds, you can reactivate the blue panel on the map, you could also give this information to the soldiers by adding a blue light above the panel that will despawn receiving Alpha and respawn after 90 seconds)

    Blue panel in the commander's room : Bravo reception => Spawn
    Interact => Send Charlie
    Charlie reception => Despawn

    Every commander's room panels : Charlie reception => Despawn
    Respawn activate : 15 secondes

    Doing that is bring more Battlefield Conquest / Commander in your gametypes and add more interactivity between Commanders and soldiers. Each point could be controlled by blue or red team to crush the enemies, and I think it's a good way to reinforce the strategy and mainly the communication between the commander who will inform the soldiers that he need his team control a particular position to help them, and the soldiers who ask the commander to block doors or give them a Mantis etc...

    Really good idea anyway, this little feedback is just a way for me to give you some ideas to reinforce yours.

    Of course, these ideas need to be balanced as good as possible, and this is the most difficult thing to do.

    On this map the "restricted" buton that blinds the enemy commander has a cooldown, as well as the "no blast shields" button that opens enemy doors. Thank you for the feedback! I had actually considered having satellites that players can activate to give new power to the commander, so I'm glad to hear you'd want something like that. I will definitely consider this for future maps. It absolutely can be done, I can handle the scripting lol. Thank you for the scripting suggestions nonetheless!
