Belligerent is a map I've been working on for the last few months. Where other maps I've made have failed, this one has lasted, and been improved upon, both through the great help of my friends in the Alliance Testing Network, and the experience I've gained testing maps over and over every week. I'm happy with what it's become over that time.

The multilayered, inversely symmetrical map started with an idea; to build a map around a tall catwalk that would segment the map into two halves. In this way, the map shares similarities with 343's own Fathom, but I'd say that's where the similarities end. I didn't want a powerful, hard to access center, but at the same time I wanted it to play a more powerful role during gameplay than say, top mid on Truth.

From that idea the map slowly grew. As I was building, I knew I wanted a map that played slayer well, but it was at an early stage in development that somebody asked me about strongholds. It was then I decided to commit to asymmetrical strongholds on a symmetrical map. Today, I feel the asymmetry compliments the map surprisingly well, and makes for very interesting engagements that wouldn't be seen on the map during a slayer match.

A big issue with the map that I've been solving over the last month has been aesthetics. The original map was pretty lackluster, and I was convinced that it needed a complete overhaul. I decided that I would focus on representing one of my favorite aesthetics in all of halo: Sword Base.

My biggest goal however, has been to make the map fun and accessible to players of all skill level. I've sat down with both bronze and onyx level players and asked every question I could think of. This has allowed for a nice culmination of sweaty and casual gameplay elements, making sure the map is accessible to all players, but that high skill players can better utilize their environment.

The map's weapons and power ups include a plasma caster, an overshield, two scattershots, two storm rifles, two boltshots, two battle rifles, two light rifles, and an assortment of grenades. It features 3 distinct levels, a pleasant combination of close quarters and long range engagements, and ample jumps and clambers for sweaty players. I hope you all enjoy it!

You should make the images on the description bigger if you can.

That's odd, they're pretty big for me... Unless you're pulling my leg...

I am using a tablet so that might be the problem.

Got to play this in a 4v4 lobby last night. We tested out regular Slayer on it.

The map is well built and has the nice clamber routes and skill jumps that a Partarar map usually has. The players were a fan of the aesthetic for sure as was I. Belligerent has that abandoned UNSC base feel to it which you were going for so good job on that.

This is personal feedback from me and not from the players: I felt that the size was a little small only because we were able to guess where some players were spawning. If we held top-mid and the other team's BR location then they would in their basement and while there is room to move out of there, it's a hassle to keep having to fight your way to the top even with a Scattershot.

Take my feedback with a grain of salt though Partarar, I'm no Forger. Just a player. I had a good experience overall and think Belligerent is a good map.

This is a fantastic map, loved our 4v4 games on here in Demptions lobby last week. Gameplay is solid but you need to enhance the map visually somehow. Maybe you could team up with someone to help you out with that. Also, the images in your map thread seem to be broken. You can just upload files through forgehub if you want.

Thanks war. I'd love to add to the aesthetics, but until the framerate issue is resolved that'll be very difficult. I've spent the vast majority of the time optimizing the map while still allowing for my desired aesthetics. Still, I'll see what I can do.
